Four days after he was seriously hurt in a snow plow accident, Jeremy Renner has shared his first video update from the hospital where he underwent surgery to address his “extensive injuries.” Per the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Renner was run over by his 14,000+ pound PistenBully Snowcat snow plow while attempting to extricate another vehicle from deep snow.

In the clip, which Renner shared to his Twitter account on Thursday morning, the actor looks out of it yet comfortable in a hospital gown and respirator. His sister and mother are shown in the room with him—his sister lovingly massages his head while his mom looks on.

“First shower in definitely a week or so,” Renner says in the video. “Gross!”

“A ‘not no great’ ICU DAY, turned to amazing spa day with my sis and mama,” Renner captioned the video, alongside a heart emoji. “Thank you sooooo much.”

Although this is the first footage Renner has shared of his time in the hospital, it’s not the first time he’s offered updates on his condition. On Tuesday, the actor shared a brief message on social media paired with a selfie.

“Thank you all for your kind words,” he wrote. “Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”

Although specific details on Renner’s condition remain private, his injuries were initially described by authorities as “traumatic.” The accident happened near Renner’s family home outside of Reno, Nevada—an area that, per CNN, received between 6 and 18 inches of snow in a New Year’s Eve storm. Officials arrived at the scene around 9 A.M. and organized for Renner to be transported via flight to the hospital. The actor reportedly remains in “critical but stable” condition.

Is it wrong to think that, while Renner’s injuries are terrible and I wouldn’t wish them on anyone, that scalp massage looks pretty sweet and I’m just a tiny bit jealous?

Thats not a respirator. Thats an oxygen mask. Respirator isn’t really a word for the hospital context, but many would find it synonymous with “ventilator” (like google does) and if he was on one of those he would be in much worse shape.

Thanks MR. COLLEGE. What’s next, suggesting fact-checking and editors?

I’d be happy with a blanket policy of no spoilers in Titles, but we all know there is a quota that MUST be filled weekly for those.

It is one of my deepest regrets that in these challenging times my standards remain unwaveringly high.

I, for one, recognize and appreciate a fellow pedant. I applaud your high standards and wish more people gave a damn about them. I swear, there’s going to come a time when I see one more person type “loose” for “lose” and it’ll send me right off the deep end. Why people settle for being willingly stupid is beyond me.

My mom (a retired ER respiratory therapist) is always yelling ventilator/oxygen inaccuracies at every hospital show. “WRONG! IF THEY HAD HIM INTUBATED LIKE THAT HE WOULD SUFFOCATE!”

I love watching shows with my parents for this reason.  My mom was a lab tech, and it was a kick watching The Dropout and hearing her just say over and over, “How did ANYONE fall for this con artist?  She doesn’t even know the basics.”

My retired respiratory therapist dad does this as well. He then proceeds to describe in great technical detail how it should be done.

I think I’d enjoy watching hospital shows/movies with your mom.

Mick Dundee voice: “That’s not a respirator. THIS is a respirator!”

I had to look this up… apparently the Reno area typically gets about 20 inches of snow in an entire year, so 6-18 inches in a single day is a once in a lifetime event for those in the area.

    • drkschtz-av says:

You shouldn’t look up the Reno, Nevada snowfall of 20 inches annually. The Renner ranch is outside of Reno up the mountain where the annual snowfall rises dramatically to between 100-220 inches a year.

      • send-in-the-drones-av says:

That seems reasonable – the mountains force the moisture up to cool and condense, squeezing it out and leaving it dry for the trip down the other side.

      • drbombay01-av says:

as a Renoite, i can say that he lives about halfway up Mt. Rose, which does get more snow than here in the valley, but even still that storm really did give us a dramatic amount of snow in a 24-hour period.

    • lmh325-av says:

He’s in Lake Tahoe – 18 feet per year.

      • drbombay01-av says:

he’s actually not in Tahoe. he’s on the NV side of the lake, and about halfway down the mountain on the NV side.

        • lmh325-av says:

Right, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe adjacent to Mount Rose Ski Resort Tahoe. I suppose saying he lives on Lake Tahoe would be more accurate, but I didn’t mean he lived in Tahoe City, and regardless, 18 feet is common on both shores of Lake Tahoe.

There is a significant chance that the large amount of snow (not just there but throughout the country over the past few weeks) could be a consequence of global warming, which enables the atmosphere to hold more water vapor and, hence, to freeze more precipitating water. What’s frustrating is that it’s borderline impossible to contemplate even saying that out loud to a politically diverse audience. Half the political spectrum is likely not just to dismiss the counterintuitive idea out of hand but to add it to the list of crazy things liberals say about the climate.

Renner is now part of a very exclusive club of actors who have been run over by their own vehicles. In fact, there are only two members, and he’s the only one who survived.

Being taken out by a snow plow sounds about Hawkeye.

  • slak96u-av says:

Glad AV is done giving him shit for being wealthy….

  • harpo87-av says:

Not to be depressing, but given what I’ve read, it’s incredible he’s alive (and seemingly has the use of at least one arm). If he was mostly run over by a 14,000 lb snowplow, I’m having trouble imagining him ever being remotely the same again, at least physically. I sincerely hope I’m wrong about that, but I’m kind of assuming his Avenging days are done at a minimum (which sucks, because I was really hoping for a Season 2 for Hawkeye). I honestly kind of dread getting a fuller report of his injuries.

    • bhockzer-av says:

They could still do a season 2 but have him be “the guy in the chair” ala Old Man Bruce in Batman Beyond.

  • rockhard69-av says:

PistenBully clearly sucks. If it works as advertised, how come Renner’s not worm food yet?
