Jimmy Kimmel announces summer guest hosts, including Jeff Goldblum, Ryan Reynolds, and more

It’s time for Jimmy Kimmel to take his annual summer vacation to spend more time with his family, as he explained when the hiatus was first announced back in 2020. That means hosting duties will be taken on by a revolving door of A-list guests, hailing from stage, screen, runway, and more.
This year’s lineup is especially Marvel-ous, featuring Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, as well as Thor: Ragnarok antagonist, Jeff Goldblum. Other hosts in the rotation (via The Hollywood Reporter) include RuPaul, Anthony Anderson, Kathryn Hahn, Kumail Nanjiani and Lamorne Morris, although exact dates are yet to be revealed.
The whole thing kicks off this upcoming Monday, with Only Murders In The Building’s Martin Short taking over for the week to interview his co-stars, Selena Gomez and Steve Martin, as well as others including Melissa McCarthy, Sienna Miller, Jelly Roll, and Beck. He’ll be assisted by musical performances from the latter two artists, as well as Imagine Dragons and The Warning.
For Morris, Goldblum, and Anderson, this is all old hat—all three have hosted the show during previous summers. Other past hosts include Chelsea Handler, Sean Hayes, Kerry Washington, Nicole Byer, Sarah Silverman, Nick Kroll, and more. Last summer, the show was off-air anyway due to the writers strike.
Over the past few years, Kimmel has repeatedly toyed with the idea of retirement. In a February interview with the Los Angeles Times, the veteran host shared that he thinks this is “my final contract.” “I hate to even say it, because everyone’s laughing at me now—each time I think that, and then it turns out to be not the case,” he continued. “I still have a little more than two years left on my contract, and that seems pretty good. That seems like enough.”
Still, he relented, “I take the summer off or I go on strike, and you start going, ‘Yeah, I miss the fun stuff.’” We’ll see if he’s still singing the same tune after this year’s hiatus.
