Joe Wright casting all his old friends in Anna Karenina

Aux Features Film

Having already cast Keira Knightley in the titular role of the Tom Stoppard-scripted adaptation of Anna Karenina—soon followed by Jude Law as her husband and Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson as her younger lover—director Joe Wright appears to be going through all of his previous films to fill out canonical literature’s quintessential unhappy family (though of course, “Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way”). First up is Matthew Macfayden, who will sidestep from playing Knightley's suitor in Pride And Prejudice to her brother here as Prince Stepan Oblonsky, while Saoirse Ronan will take her third role in a Wright film (after Atonement and Hanna) to play Kitty. Rounding out the cast are Boardwalk Empire’s Kelly Macdonald as Macfayden’s wife and Ronan’s sister Dolly, Olivia Williams as Johnson's mother, Andrea Riseborough as Princess Betsy, and Domhnall Gleeson (best known as Bill Weasley from the Harry Potter series) plays family friend Nikolai Levin. Karenina reportedly starts shooting in September. [via /Film]
