In the new trailer for Apple TV+ dramedy series Mr. Corman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt faces the fact that sometimes life just sucks. The 500 Days Of Summer actor wrote, directed, and stars in this new TV offering, which is an atypical format for him.

The Apple TV+ description of the series reads:

Mr. Corman follows the days and nights of Josh Corman, an artist at heart but not by trade. A career in music hasn’t panned out, and he teaches fifth grade at a public school in the San Fernando Valley. His ex-fiancé Megan has moved out, and his high school buddy Victor has moved in. He knows he has a lot to be thankful for, but finds himself struggling nevertheless through anxiety, loneliness, and a sinking suspicion that he sucks as a person. Darkly funny, oddly beautiful, and deeply heartfelt, this relatable dramedy speaks for our contemporary generation of 30-somethings: rich with good intentions, poor with student loans, and yearning to become real grown-ups sometime before they die.

Gordon-Levitt stars alongside Arturo Castro (Broad City), Debra Winger (Terms Of Endearment, E.T., An Officer And A Gentleman), Bobby Hall aka the rapper Logic, Alexander Jo, Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), Jamie Chung, Shannon Woodward (Westworld), and Hector Hernandez.

Known for his roles in Inception, and 50/50, Gordon-Levitt started his career as a teenager in television series like 3rd Rock From The Sun. Once the show wrapped up in 2001, Gordon-Levitt primarily stuck to film, taking on random TV episode roles from time to time. His only long-term television role over the last twenty years was in Amazon Prime Video’s Comrade Detective (2017), which aired six episodes. Mr. Corman is Gordan-Levitt’s most recent major directorial project, followed by his debut with 2013's Don Jon.

The first two episodes of series premiere August 6 on Apple TV+ with new episodes weekly on Friday.

Blurst unless someone is in the grays, and they don’t count anyway. Also, I was hoping this was a series about Roger Corman and his early years of film making.

TBH I totally thought it was. I know little of the guy but enough to know his history in filmmaking is just weird and interesting.

      • gildie-av says:

I thought it was too and even swore I saw it described as that somewhere but maybe they were projecting too. But this looks just as good… sigh.

I would love a biographical Roger Corman series. The episode on how Corman filmed Little Shop of Horrors in two days would be amazing.

Other than being happily married this is basically my real actual life.

  • normchomsky1-av says:

Just yesterday he was a kid alien who was actually old, or a kid who was helping both literal and nicknamed angels cheat at baseball

I can’t help but say that E.T. is a cool deep cut but a supremely odd choice as one of the two film credits mentioned for Debra Winger.

    • gabrielle-sanchez-av says:

Okay yes, but while Pat Welsh did a lot of E.T.’s voice, Winger, who had a small role in the film, lended her voice temporarily for E.T., and yes it ended up in the final movie!!!! They even layered their two voices over one another at some points. I just thought it was a funny tidbit

JGL was DJ’s not friend/friend George on Rosanne for two years before he was cast in 3rd Rock

    • cathleenburner-av says:

And before that he was the young version of (main character guy) in Redford’s A River Runs Through It.

  • sirslud-av says:

    this sounds very Joseph Gordon-Levitt

  • laurenceq-av says:

Did you honestly just list “E.T.” as among Debra Winger’s most notable accomplishments?

  • jhhmumbles-av says:

Well, I’m glad he decided to become a teacher after the brutal experience of breaking up that heroin ring back in high school.

    • bhlam-22-av says:

Holy shit. If this turned into a backdoor sequel series to Brick, I would be 100% in.

      • igotlickfootagain-av says:

“I’ve got all five senses and I slept last night. That puts me six up on all of you.”“Mr Corman, this is a PTA meeting.”

  • thants-av says:

There was a period there that he was one of the most interesting actors working, doesn’t seem to be doing very much recently so this is nice to see. I thought Don Jon had its flaws but it showed a lot of promise for him as a director.

    • trbmr69-av says:

He has had a long career. He’s 40 and has been working for 33 of them. He started acting 8 years before 3rd Rock. He was the creepy little kid in Dark Shadows. Maybe he want to take it a little easy .

  • bhlam-22-av says:

Yeah, I don’t know. Looks like it could be okay. I’ll watch an episode or two.

  • rigbyriordan-av says:

Been a fan of this guy since he was  learning how to fly fish.

  • laurenceq-av says:

So I guess we have to add Juno Temple as a permanent square on our Apple Plus bingo cards.

  • xy0001-av says:

but how many times does he jack off in a day?

  • sosgemini-av says:

Sorry, he’s always bored me. He exemplified one of my biggest Hollywood pet peeve. he got cast because some gay casting director had a twink white boy fetish. Kinda breaks my heart when you think what the two Corys  went through. Hopefully those days are over. Can’t wait for Greg Akkari gets the Larry Clark treatment. All his “film” male starlets should be interviewed by a grand jury.

    • thants-av says:

This just feels like you having some grudge against Greg Akkari more than anything relevant.

  • igotlickfootagain-av says:

Forget about the teacher, that looks like a class of depressed little kids if only one of them feels like a lucky person.

  • lurklen-av says:

Sounds like he has one friend willing to do whatever to help him out, and a bunch of other people offering shitty mental health advice and basically telling him that he’s the problem and he needs to get over it. No wonder he’s in a funk, most of the people around him are jerks.

  • mike-mckinnon-av says:

Debra Winger was in E.T.???Thanks, IMDB. Nurse Zombie Carrying Poodle (uncredited)

  • notoriousblackout-av says:

JGL is a competent actor, and he usually tackles interesting scripts. Mixes the commercial hits with indie stuff with a pretty high success rate. Seems like a cool guy, too, for what it’s worth. 50/50 is still one of the most under-appreciated comedy/dramas of the last decade.

  • therealchrisward-av says:

Excited to see JGL back to acting instead of his current role: most irritating post-prompting person on my social media timelines.

  • Fartwellington-av says:

I dont relate with JGL on any level. Of course apple thinks I do.
