As summer marches on, July brings some of the most anticipated titles of the season to the big screen. Two pop culture titans dominate, helmed by beloved Oscar-winning auteurs: Taika Waititi follows up on his Marvel Cinematic Universe flair with Thor: Love And Thunder, while Jordan Peele unveils the most brilliantly titled horror film of the year, Nope. Streaming services have plenty to offer as well, between Dakota Johnson’s Persuasion and Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans’ The Gray Man on Netflix, and Billy Porter’s directorial debut Anything’s Possible on Prime Video. And for those who can’t get enough Minions, there’s, well, more Minions. Read on for your closer look at the July 2022 films that are worth the price of popcorn today.

I’m really digging Chris Evans as the bad guy in the trailer for The Gray Man. The movie looks pretty generic, but I may have to check it out just to see Evans be an evil asshole.

Yeah, but that was really only at the end where we got to see him be an asshole; he was hiding it most of the film. I want him to be a prick right from the start, really get to lean into it throughout.

I can’t believe I’m saying this…but I’m looking forward to Minions. To put it into context, I’m REALLY looking forward to Thor but still.
The Minions movies are the purest example of dumb fun. I think people hate the Minions less for their movies and more for the lazy boomer meme pictures of them that seem to infest Facebook
They were the Garfield of the 2010s. Annoyingly overexposed but cute in small doses. The new film does look like they’re making a real effort to freshen things up a bit.
