Kelly Ripa comes to Riverdale for what’s sure to be a bright and cheery episode

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Wednesday, January 30. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Riverdale (The CW, 8 p.m.): Kelly Ripa! So cheerful, so energetic, such a bright, bubbly presence in the morning. What a natural fit for Riverdale. Ripa, who’s married to Mark Consuelos in our human reality, will be entering the realm of Hot Archie as Hiram’s alleged mistress, “Ms. Mulwray.” It’s going to be really fun and light and bubbly, right?

Whoops. Also, this episode is called “The Red Dahlia.” Uh, welcome, Kelly Ripa? Hope your stay in Riverdale is light and entertaining.

Regular coverage

Vikings (History, 9 p.m.): fifth season finale
Modern Family (ABC, 9 p.m.)
You’re The Worst (FXX, 10 p.m.)
Deadly Class (Syfy, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes On Television (YouTube, 8 p.m.): Behold, the most meta comedy on television, and that, friends, is saying something:

In all seriousness, our own Erik Adams, Danette Chavez, and Allison Shoemaker got the chance to visit the set of the second season of Ryan Hansen, and they can safely say that the series has got some pretty bonkers stuff planned. The first season is streaming for free; the second drops today, for money. Watch, and count the cameos—er, suspects.

Politics Corner is so cold. So very cold. Briefly, DNI Coats and CIA Director Haspell said ISIS isn’t beaten, NK isn’t denuclearizing, and Iran is abiding with the Obama-era nuclear deal. Some jackass is loudly wrong about all of these things in front of the world, and the world knows better. Because they ALSO have intelligence services, except, unlike this jackass, THEY LISTEN TO THEIR GODDAMNED BRIEFINGS AND TRUST THEM MORE THAN FOX AND FRIENDS WHO ARE JUST REPEATING YOUR TWEETS AS FACTS! THAT’S NOT CONFIRMATION! YOU JACKASS!!!*sigh* It’s too cold today. If we reelect this idiot, it will be the end of American credibility. It’s already so, so bad, guys.

I remain optimistic for the next election. You know how when, say, the Ravens won the Superbowl … then the next season they sucked because all the teams watched the fuck out of Ravens films and figured out how to beat them. That’s what’s going to happen this next election. Everyone’s like “Trump beat 17 candidates! Trump beat 17 candidates!” … No. Trump beat four candidates: Cruz, Rubio, Kasich, and Clinton. Or… a slime ball, a long shot, an empty suit … and Clinton. We all know what Clinton did wrong – we’ve watched the tapes. We also know that Don cheated. It ain’t gonna be that easy for Don to cheat again. Nobody wants to be on his team. No one can stand him. He blathers on in word salad. Everyone’s hip to his schtick now. I’m not saying relax and stay home. I’m just saying: find that ray of sunshine and hang on!

You sound retarded, frankly, and someone in your state “assisting” veterans is an absolute disservice to their best interests. Please, consider stepping back and attempting to collect yourself.

It is literally 50 degrees colder here than it was 36 hours ago. That would be great if it had been 110f Monday evening. It wasn’t.

Ripa grew up on All My Children, starting out as a somewhat chubby wisecracking goth chick. She’s of the same AMC generation as Sarah Michelle Geller who was a cast favorite as Erica Kane’s unknown illegitimate daughter (which is a neat trick, if you think about it).

And she was on NBC’s “Ed.” I know this because of a promo from 2004 that won’t leave my mind.(to the tune of “Ride of the Valkyries”)
      KELLY RIIIIIIII-PA
      KELLY RIIIIIIII-PA
      KELLY RIIIIIIII-PA
      ON ED!!
      KELLY RIIIIIIII-PA
      KELLY RIIIIIIII-PA
      KELLY RIIIIIIII-PA
      ON ED!!

That song ran all throughout the Olympics. it was such a big deal that Kelly Ripa was on Ed.

Wait, wait, wait… Goth Ripa? This I have to see.

So, that’s a pass on continuing coverage for The Magicians. I get it. Why start now? Not doing it last year killed it for this year. I hope this is just an honest scheduling snafu and not a vendetta like: that one time Summer Bishil and Olivia Dudley stopped by the AV Club office on a press tour, did shots of tequila, and then threw up on the couch. Cause, you know, they were young! Forgive and forget. It makes a great story now; the stain on the couch. The smell is mostly gone. … Oh well. I look forward to the season ending recap in 12 weeks.

Just throwing this out there for any fans of Amy Sedaris who also like to read the greys: At Home with Amy Sedaris will be back for its second season on February 19.

I’ve been so excited to finally see Ripa join in on the Riverdale madhouse, I can’t wait to finally see it play out. And Ryan Hanson actually looks pretty good? A ton of the same people from Party Down and other great comedians, it might be the first YouTube Premium show I actually watch besides MindField.
