Take it from the big boss: Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has many more journeys to embark on in the MCU. According to Kevin Feige, there are “lots” more Thor stories to tell.

“There are these things called comic books that have a lot of stories in them – and that’s where all of our stories come from. And the question is, ‘Have you told all the great Thor stories from the comics in movies?’ The answer is no. There are lots of them,” Feige teased during a press conference for Thor: Love And Thunder, per Total Film.

Hemsworth first took on the role in 2011's Thor, a year before Marvel began expanding its current multiverse with 2012's The Avengers. A brazenly Norse warrior booted from Asgard to Earth, Thor evolved from an MCU offshoot into one of the universe’s most beloved characters. In his early review of Thor: Love And Thunder, film critic Simon Thompson lauded Hemsworth as “a jewel in Marvel’s crown.”

At the press conference, Feige also emphasized that part of continuing Thor’s journey means continuing with the performers who’ve brought it to life.

“I’ve always said our interest in making additional stories is somewhat about continuing the character, [but] it’s almost entirely about continuing the experience with the actor. I think of all of our cast, not as their individual characters, but as the Marvel players who within that character can grow and evolve and change,” Feige explained. “And if we look at the comics as our guide, there are plenty of other incarnations of Thor that we have yet to see.”

Although any specifics on future Thor films with Hemsworth remain undisclosed, Feige also teased some potential big MCU announcements at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, set to kick off on July 21.

“It’s the first time since we were on stage there three years ago talking about this movie and many others,” Feige said of the upcoming event. “Now I think almost everything that we discussed three years ago has been released so we’re excited to go and talk about the future.”

Thor: Love And Thunder will arrive in theaters nationwide on July 8.

Why not seems like he’s having fun

    • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

I personally think the best evidence for this is his What If … ? episode as ‘Party’ Thor as he was clearly having a lot of fun and definitely not phoning his performance in (even when he technically was as Frog Thor for Loki, he wasn’t if you know what I mean).

  • peterbread-av says:

Other than maybe Extraction the MCU is all Hemsworth has got. As much fun as he can be as Thor there’s plenty of flops, some of them big ones on his resume outside of those so it wouldn’t be a shock if he’s reluctant to move on from it quite just yet.

    • murrychang-av says:

Yeah with his filmography making a bazillion dollars from Marvel and then retiring would be a pretty good choice.

      • peterbread-av says:

I want him to do well. He’s a fun screen presence and a pretty gifted comic actor so there’s no reason why he can’t find another franchise but he hasn’t quite done so yet.

Channing Tatum must be stealing all the best scripts.

      • hootiehoo2-av says:

How dare you, he can always go be a bad guy in a Tom Cruise Movie as Tom Cruise just proved he is bigger star than anyone else! All bow down to Tom! You too The Rock, bow down to Tom! 🙂

    • drkschtz-av says:

If Hemsworth spent all of age 27 – 50 making $20 mil a pop as Thor and $3 mil a pop as rando in a Netflix movie, I’d say that’s one hell of a life.

    • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

the new era of movie star seems to mean you can just kind of fuck around in big budget shit for years without them generating any money. the ryan reynolds method.is that hulk hogan movie he was doing no longer in play? that seems like an easy layup.

    • akabrownbear-av says:

He’s got a lead role in Furiosa coming up and I think he played a pretty good villain in El Royale. I don’t think he’s that reliant on Thor and I think he’d have an easy time finding new starring roles or branching out into different supporting roles if he wanted to.It just seems like he’s having a blast playing the character since Taika took over. And they also filmed Thor 4 in Australia which I’m sure was nice for him as well.

      • peterbread-av says:

I’m looking forward to Furiosa. Should be good for him.

I’d like to see him work with Soderbergh and one or both of the Coens. Really think he’d shine in something like that.

    • gargsy-av says:

Yeah, he’s got nothing. In fact, in the last decade he’s only made a laughable 27 films.  Of course, only seventeen of them were none-MCU movies. What a pathetic loser who has nothing at all going for him except Thor.

    • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

Even though they’re small parts, his brothers have been in more interesting films than Chris’s non-MCU projects IMO with Luke having been in Infini and Liam having a small part in Triangle (starring Melissa George). Both films have much more interesting concepts than most of your usual releases.Edit: scratch that – I forgot about A Perfect Getaway and The Cabin In the Woods.I’d like to revise my statement to all three Hemsworth brothers have been in some very interesting films.

It’s a shame that nobody but the Ghostbusters reboot seems able to figure out that Hemsworth is really, really funny. Put this man in a frigging comedy!

    • maulkeating-av says:

You seem to be mistaking “having all his time taken up by the MCU” for “has nothing else going for him”.

  • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

comics completely aside (never read any thor), it would be a shame not to have thor and loki interact again considering they’re still very much in play in the mcu.

    • gargsy-av says:

“very much in play” in that Loki is dead and on some other plane of existance?

    • gbaby239-av says:

They will Loki just has to make it back to thor remember he’s stuck in a the TVA right now I’m sure when Kang makes his appearance in Antman Loki will be able to break out with Scott or hope. I’m sure Kang isn’t even the big bad… I’m pretty sure they’re setting up the stage for knull and it’s impossible both Kang or knull don’t bring Loki and thor together. Especially knull I’m sure knull will bring Loki and every super & anti hero in the mcu together. U need the whole universe for knull that’s no thanos

  • magpie187-av says:

His best movie is The Cabin in the Woods.

    • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

A Perfect Getaway is some tough competition! (Even the title is clever with layers of meaning!)

    • hardscience-av says:

His performance in Rush was better. CITW may be a more thought provoking movie, but he shines in Rush.

  • gargsy-av says:

“And the question is, ‘Have you told all the great Thor stories from the comics in movies?’”

No, that’s NOT the question. Surely you haven’t told all the great Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow and Vision stories haven’t been told, yet none of them are coming back for more.

  • dp4m-av says:

This just makes me think he’s dying in Love and Thunder a lot more…… Feige said “Thor” movies, not “Thor Odinson” movies…

    • jrobie-av says:

You think they’re going to make a bunch more movies about the Kon-Tiki guy?

      • pocrow-av says:

I admire your ability to not be spoiled by who else in Love & Thunder.

        • cosmicghostrider-av says:

Yeah he is not the only character named Thor anymore. In fact for all we know he may discard it and call himself “the odinson” in the film. That’s what happened in the comics this film is based on.

  • hootiehoo2-av says:

That’s cool, Thor can live for along times so he can just be around and not be the focus. Unlike Ironman who had to die (I wish he died like a punk that he is instead of as a hero) and Cap who needed to just go be happy.Hemsworth is always better playing off someone else, so him showing up in others movies can help. Now what they haven’t mentioned is this is probably Rocket’s 2nd to last movie. And my fucking God am I going cry like a baby over the dead of Rocket in part 3 of GOG.

    • cosmicghostrider-av says:

Lately in the comics Thor has been casually hooking up with She-Hulk in the background of Avengers comics… I’m totally welcoming the idea of a Chris Hemsworth cameo in future Avengers films where he casually slips out of She-Hulks bedroom in the background.

  • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

What is it to be “brazenly Norse”?

  • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

“There are these things called comic books that have a lot of stories in them – and that’s where all of our stories come from. And the question is, ‘Have you told all the great Thor stories from the comics in movies?’ The answer is no. There are lots of them,” Good. Can we have a comic accurate Taskmaster while we’re at it please?

    • luismvp-av says:

I’m guessing we’ll see her again, Thunderbolts would make sense – if not somewhere else like Black Widow 2. I wouldn’t be surprised if her personality is more in line with the comics version now that she’s been free of mind control for 2 years (if she was dusted) or 8 years (if she wasn’t).

    • cosmicghostrider-av says:

He sounds like he’s speaking down to the interviewer “there are these things called comic books” yah fucking duh. Lol calm down Kevin Feige.

      • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

On a side note, The 18 part Thanos/Thanos Wins miniseries was excellent and when Cosmic Ghost Rider appeared I’m like yeah yeah, obviously it’s you Wade can we get the reveal over with but then … !!!The other comic I bought at the same time (Despicable Deadpool) was one of the funniest things I’ve ever read to the point where I was still laughing myself almost sick even after the sixth time I read it (specifically, how Deadpool took down the entire extended Avengers line up without even meaning to).Bullseye and Taskmaster being so offended that Deadpool took a hit out on himself that they refused to continue the contract even for $20 million once they learned he was behind it and telling him to “seek help” was up there too.

  • polkabow-av says:

Thor the character should be a thing of the past, like the other big two. He had a good run and lets leave it at that. My opinion because the redundancy due to the existence of Captain Marvel.

  • luke211-av says:

They can go wild with thor stories but the few that can actually top what they have done till now are very few. They rushed through the best ideas fast for scraps here and there (jane thor, asgard on earth, ragnarok, dark elves). What remains is a fear itself movie (odin being dead though), a siege storyline (no fun without the dark reign). The really cool stuff they could do with hemsworth thor is maybe another solo movie, and then the thor corp in secret wars, being also a strange-heavy story.Thats next step in marvel big multiphase arc, a whole romp with wanda as the molecule man, miles morales, cumbersnatch as sheriff strange, thor corp, and plenty of movie cameos to make, from x men side, to a kang part, including marvel zombies and all kinds of different worlds mashed up

  • iambrett-av says:

He re-upped on his contract, so not surprising. Although Feige has said they don’t do the 9-film MCU contracts anymore, so it’s presumably for something smaller like 3-4 films.

  • alexpkavclub-av says:

I sure like the idea of seeing his Thor as an elder statesman in future Avengers movies. What’s his chemistry with Anthony Mackie going to be like? There’s so much potential to see how Thor works with the newer additions to the MCU. I hope he keeps making Thor movies with Taika for as long as they want to, but I think he’ll be a real asset to the big ensemble movies, too.

  • bc222-av says:

The first two Thor films almost don’t really count (the character is almost as different as Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool from that Wolverine movie to the actual Deadpool movies), so i feel like he’s got plenty left in the Thor tank.

  • cosmicghostrider-av says:

See what Chris Hemsworth needs to do to break away from Thor is star in a buddy comedy with Jon Hamm. They have the exact same goofy handsome guy big chin charm. We seriously can’t find things for guys like this to do??

  • coatituesday-av says:

Good for him, good for Marvel. I like what the MCU has done with the character: Thor is… you know, good-hearted, sometimes arrogant, and a bit dim, and Hemsworth puts that across perfectly. And since you asked, my favorite non-Thor work he’s done? Cabin in the Woods – which is a fine movie, and the Whedon connection can be dismissed if you want – it’s a Drew Goddard film….[I haven’t checked, and won’t, but I assume Drew Goddard remains a nice person..?]
