Kit Harington to host SNL, BTS to stop by Studio 8H a week later

Aux Features Kit Harington

Just a day ahead of the wildly anticipated Game of Thrones final season premiere, Kit Harington will host Saturday Night Live on April 6. If they can make it through the night without someone wailing, “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” then we’ll consider it a smashing success.

The announcement was made today via SNL’s official Twitter account.

This will be – perhaps inexplicably – Harington’s first time stopping by Studio 8H. His musical partner in crime for the night, Sara Bareilles, will also be making her SNL debut just a day after the release of her new album, Amidst The Chaos. Bareilles ended her limited Waitress run on Broadway early February, so maybe she won’t be sequestered by the piano and will actually get to join the cast for some fun at some point.

Shit is scheduled to really hit the fan when K-pop superstars BTS make their own debut at the late night comedy show alongside veteran host Emma Stone on April 13. The South Korean boy band recently made history at this year’s Grammy Awards when they became the first K-pop group to ever present on their stage. Similarly to Bareilles, BTS will also grace fans with their new album Map Of The Soul : Persona a day ahead of their musical guest shift. This will be Stone’s fourth time hosting.

Has America’s music scene become so stagnant that people are foaming at the mouth for androgynous Korean boy bands? Yes, apparently.

This GOT season is going to be over before we know what hit us… I hope they hurry it up with the spinoff.

Calling it now: Fantasy family feud addition, Game of Thrones with whatever unrelated assortment of impressions the cast can cobble together. It will not be funny.

Kit Harrington gets answer wrong. Ygritte snaps with a “See, I knew you knew nothing.”

You know, the impressions the kids love: Lady Gaga, Spiro Agnew, a Kardashian/Jenner Voltron-esque hellbeast, the recently and still deceased Jan-Michael Vincent, Linda Lavin, Dee the sarcastic sister from What’s Happenin’!!, Ayn Rand, Bill Wyman, the puppets from Gigglesnort Hotel…

Emma Stone is a good host. I just hope they write enough decent material for her and the cast of charming fuckheads we’ve grown to know, and to love, this season.

I briefly got excited that Built to Spill was for some unknown reason hosting SNL.  The dream of the 90s is DEAD.

Hey, Tame Impala, just release new music now so I don’t have to watch SNL.

I get *why* Kit Harrington is hosting—Game of Thrones is huge, obviously, and SNL gets to capitalize on publicity tie-ins with upcoming final season. And technically he’s one of the leads? But I just don’t sense any personal star power from him. He’s a serviceable actor on the show, but he hasn’t shown a lot of range, and he hasn’t done much outside of it (the Andy Samberg tennis flick was fun tho).I checked and Peter Dinklage hosted back in 2016, which pleases me, but I feel like the remaining GoT “stars” who would do the best job hosting are Maisie Williams and Lena Headey. Emilia Clarke hasn’t even hosted! So weird.

And technically he’s one of the leads? Kit Harington? The guy who plays Jon Snow? The Legendary Hero of Bullshit who wields the sword of Deus Ex Machina? The rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms? Whose storyline the fans have followed since the first episode?Yes, Kit Harington might just be considered one of the leads.

He doesn’t have to do shit. He’s there because he’s super popular and the Game of Thrones is super popular. And he’s the one trying hardest to make his 15 minutes of worldwide fame last. Dinklage doesn’t need to and the others don’t seem to care as much. You think SNL is a talent contest or something? Catch up.

WAIT – BTS isn’t a reference to “Built To Spill”? Which temporal possibility am I in NOW?!?!?!?

Am I showing my age that I got excited and thought BTS stood for Built To Spill?
