Kurt Vile covers Bruce Springsteen, plans new EP

Don't be surprised if Kurt Vile's excellent stoner-rock opus Smoke Ring For My Halo ends up on The A.V. Club's best of 2011 albums list. The record has been in constant rotation since it came out in March, so we won't begrudge Matador for re-releasing Halo Nov. 8 as part of a deluxe edition with a new six-song EP, So Outta Reach. (The EP will also be sold separately.) The first song on Reach, a dusky beauty called "The Creature," is streaming here. The EP will also include a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Downbound Train," a great deep cut from 1984's Born In The U.S.A. A full tracklist for So Outta Reach is below; also check out a live clip of Springsteen performing "Downbound Train" in 1985. [Via Pitchfork]

1. The Creature
2. It's Alright
3. Life's a Beach
4. Laughing Stock
5. Downbound Train (Bruce Springsteen cover)
6. (so outta reach)
