Kyle MacLachlan says the third season of Twin Peaks will be “amazing”

Kyle MacLachlan, who plays Special Agent Dale Cooper on Twin Peaks, has read a few episodes of the series’ upcoming third season and suggested to Deadline that they’re better than a cup of coffee and a slice of pie at the Double R Diner. MacLachlan revealed, hopefully while whittling something, “I have read a couple [of episodes], but I can’t share anything with you. I would love to, believe me. I can certainly say without hesitation, it’s going to be amazing.”

Even if that’s hyperbole, it’s exactly what Twin Peaks fans want to hear after this season’s rocky pre-production process, which included a dispute with Showtime that resulted in David Lynch refusing to direct the season, then a campaign by the Twin Peaks cast to bring Lynch back, and then Lynch agreeing once again to direct the season with more episodes and a restored Double R. The events have triggered a roller coaster of emotions that has matched the experience of watching the show—where viewers one minute are laughing at Deputy Andy Brennan hitting his head on something and the next are cowering at a bloodied Laura Palmer screaming at the camera—except without any strobe lights.

Even though MacLachlan can’t reveal much about the new season, he did confirm that shooting will begin in September or October. This fits with previous reports that the show will air sometime in 2016, when we finally will figure out how Annie is and whether Cooper has learned to brush his teeth properly during the past 25 years.
