Now that Interview With The Vampire has finally arrived on TV—sucking up a series of passionately positive reviews in the process—AMC’s Anne Rice TV universe is already preparing to expand. (And we’re not just talking about that early renewal for the parent show.) Case in point: The new trailer for Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches that rolled out at New York Comic-Con today.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches | Official Trailer | AMC+

Described as “the second series in the Anne Rice Immortal Universe,” the AMC+ streaming series stars Alexandra Daddario as Dr. Rowan Fielding, a neurosurgeon who suddenly discovers that she’s also heir to a powerful family of witches. Harry Hamlin shows up in the trailer as one of her spooky relatives, while Tongayi Chirisa plays Ciprien, a supernatural investigator trying to warn Rowan that her family’s powers are accompanied by a sexy, deadly curse, in the form of the sexy. deadly demon Lasher—Rice’s other favorite supernatural bad boy—who appears in flashes here and there in the trailer in the form of Jack Huston.

Interestingly, the trailer resists any urge to try to tie Mayfair Witches into Interview, despite the whole “Immortal Universe” branding; Rice eventually began jamming her two best-selling franchises together circa 2000 or so, but so far this is looking standalone. For now, it just looks to be a spooky haunted house story of sorts, with Daddario slowly coming in to her own as a witch while fending off—or not—Lasher’s advances. Today’s trailer was shown off at the Con panel by Daddario, plus Huston, Chirisa, Hamlin, and series showrunners Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford.

In addition to the trailer, the series also got itself a brand new premiere date: Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is set to debut on AMC+ on January 5, 2023; the show is currently set to run for 8 episodes on the streamer.

If this season ends the way the Witching Hour did, everyone will forget the fucked up baby stuff from the Twilight Saga as things get very weird here.

This is one of my favorite books. That is all.

the witches were mentioned in interview with the vampire’s first episode. i wonder what else amc will be adding to the universe.i knew alexandra daddario was in this but jack huston and beth grant? let’s go!

Alexandra Daddario as a lead on an episodic show? I’m in.Also, wtf? AMC+ makes exclusive streaming shows? How does service never get mentioned when people bitch and moan about there being “too many” streaming services?

There is a line of dialogue in the first episode of Interview which mentions the Mayfair witches so maybe they’re relying on that show to establish the “universe”

It’s more about mere acknowledgement than outright plot setup to tie in the two series in order to establish the universe.

Not super stoked with the cast there is a lot of “oh didn’t they play a laywer in every CBS police prcecdural” types there. Which is usually a warning sign of everything being sanded down and made “relatable”.

Alexadra Daddario is also and example of “i seem like a good person, but I sure am in a lot of mediocre stuff”

No offense to Alexandra Daddario fans, but I think she is VERY hit or miss. Maybe more miss. Texas Chainsaw, Baywatch, San Andreas, Percy Jackson, Bereavement. Then she did We Summon the Darkness and We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The White Lotus and was very good and a very good sport in those. The Witching Hour is the one Anne Rice book that I have toted around with me for the last twenty years from apartment to apartment. I’m not confident of her ability to carry this, but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see, fingers crossed.

I’m of a similar mind. I’m also curious how they plan to write out Michael entirely, at least for the first season. I mean … he’s kind of a big deal in the book?

    • drkschtz-av says:

Seems pretty normal. Who is all hits? A deep method actor who picks one role every 5 years like Daniel Day Lewis?

    • jaybeezy1227-av says:

How many of those misses were *her* fault? A lot of times, it’s can be about not getting the right roles, which is something she’s talked about. I mean, how can it be her fault that the Baywatch movie sucked when the movie totally squandered her?Let’s not forget she’s an Emmy nominee. She’s very capable of delivering great work.
