It’s that time once again folks: The point in the year where we look back, take stock of the world, and—hey, hey, where are you going?!

No, but seriously: It’s Emmy nomination time, as the Television Academy gears up to evaluate the TV offerings of the second half of 2019, and the first, like, week of 2020, before the entire industry collapsed in on itself into an ever-expanding sinkhole. Deadline reports that this year’s Emmy nominations will arrive next Tuesday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. Central. The announcement of this year’s crop of luminaries will be headed up by former SNL star (and current Supermarket Sweep host) Leslie Jones, plus Laverne Cox, Tatiana Maslany, and Josh Gad, because god help you if you try to do anything in Hollywood these days without giving Josh Gad a call.

The actual Emmy ceremony is still scheduled for September 20, and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel—or at least by the tiny Jimmy Kimmel who lives in his Zoom window.

Couldn’t Tatiana Maslany just do it as 4 different characters?

    How diverse

In a lazy kinda way. Love me some Laverne Cox but she elevated a whole bunch of LGB folk and more importantly, trans actors. Let them shine too Academy. And I ain’t hating on Laverne. They called and she said yes. Go Mija!

News about people announcing nominations. My meta-o-meter is overloaded.

“It is July 28th, 2020. I am in Los Angeles. I watch Emmy nominations being announced by a group of actors who are each in separate locations due to a worldwide pandemic. A television series depicting my life is nominated in every category, even in ones for which it does not qualify. The announcers state that this is because the series is simply that good.” — Dr. Manhattan

Why is there always Josh Gad???

Josh Gad must have some serious dirt on the major players in the industry, because blackmail is the only way I can reckon that he keeps getting these opportunities.

He fails upwards harder than Adam Corolla.

Carolla. One is a car, the other is a successful comedian, author, filmmaker, businessman and podcaster. He doesn’t have a talk show like Kimmel but if you think Adam is failing you’ve got one seriously messed up metric for success. Go watch his documentaries, Uppity (the story of Willy T. Ribbs, the first black man to compete at the Indianapolis 500, among other things) and The 24 Hour War on Netflix, and tell me Adam is failing at anything.

I’m willing to admit that his performance in Avenue 5 didn’t make me want to punch a baby.

He is why I stopped watching Avenue 5, it wasn’t great, but by 3 episodes the not great and especially him made me decide I’d be better off watching something else.
