Greetings from the Toronto International Film Festival, a.k.a. our living rooms. Because of COVID, this year’s edition of the fest has been mostly online. Our film critics, A.A. Dowd and Katie Rife, have been covering it from home over the past week, writing about the best and biggest titles at this unusual, virtual version of the annual movielovers’ summit. Really want to see One Night in Miami, and our local film society is showing it in a couple of weeks at a pop-up drive-in theater that’s across town from me. I’m tempted, even though the drive-in is in a part of the city that’s…..not great. Being there after dark isn’t my idea of a fun night out.
Just looking at the above photo with Frances and her Mona Lisa smile for Nomadland makes me want to see it!
