After cleaning up at the Grammys and winning a Doritos dance-off against Sam Elliott—look, it was for a Super Bowl commercial“Old Town Road” scribe Lil Nas X is setting his sights on dominating 2020. The latest case in point: His new music video for “Rodeo,” which features a guest spot from his namesake, Nas. Together, the pair are, let’s see here, vampire-zombies trapped in a Jigsaw test from Saw that’s also riddled with The Matrix iconography. Hey, as “Old Town Road” proved, everything sort of smooshes together when you grow up on the internet.

Check out the latest single, apparently also sponsored by Doritos (and Estée Lauder), below:

We dunno. We’ll probably need to hear Sam Elliott solemnly recite the lyrics before we can make up our minds on this one.

Wow. That’s some of the most egregious product placement I’ve ever seen. And are all this guy’s songs going to be about cowboy stuff?I like the appearance by actual Nas though. It’s cool that older artists like him and Trent Reznor are willing to support a young, openly gay black man bending genres and being weird.

Panini wasn’t about cowboy stuff, neither was C7osure

      • paulkinsey-av says:

Let me be absolutely clear here: I don’t know anything about Lil Nas-X or his music. This is only the second song by him that I’ve heard. Though I find the implication that cowboys do not enjoy fresh, hot paninis to be extremely offensive.

    • masonpines-av says:

All his songs aren’t about cowboy stuff… he put out an EP with 8 songs on it in 2019, and only 3 of them were even vaguely country or cowboy-related (2 were different mixes of Old Town Road, the other one was this song). But honestly, since country-rap is kind of the main thing he’s famous for, would it be such a crime if he did do that?

    • kityglitr-av says:

His track F9mily (You &Me) is actually a pop punk song!

  • Sledgewell-av says:

Old Town Road was and is yet another example of how low our bar is set. This fucking country. Old Town Road blows up, Marky Mark is an “actor” and half the country wants Donald Trump to be king. Fuck all of you.I hope the asteroid hits us first.

I love when rappers reveal how corny they really are, like Lil Wayne idolizing Nu-Metal

I’m nearly 30 and I don’t normally get too excited about mainstream music anymore, but Lil Nas X is just so much fun, it actually gets me hyped.

  • fitzburnside-av says:

After everything that’s come out about Nas I can’t help but see Lil Nas X differently now.

  • yummsh-av says:

Man, you kids are easily impressed.

      Let people enjoy things Scrooge

      • yummsh-av says:

Enjoy anything and everything you want exactly how you want, Tiny Tim. Ain’t gonna stop me from saying how much I think this and many other undercooked songs of its ilk fucking suck. There’s nothing to this ‘song’ except Nas’ verse. Nothing.

You’re probably right, but hey, on the positive side, someday you’ll look up and realize that a lot of the music you liked as a young person was fucking trash, too, and that the only reason you listened to it was because everyone else around you did.It happens to the best of us. You’ll see.

Dont project what you experienced to everyone else. You’re not some oracle just because you’re contrarian.Feeling smug, and wanting everyone to know about it, does not mean you should reply on this article.

Dont project what you experienced to everyone else. If it helps, I absolutely was a Kid Rock fan back in senior year of high school. I absolutely am not a Kid Rock fan now (which, honestly, has to do with the shift from proudly dumb jock rock to proudly dumb mediocre crossover country).Tastes change, is what I’m saying.

You should listen to your elders. We’re often wrong but even then you can learn something. This time he’s right though.

          • yummsh-av says:

Not being smug or contrarian at all, and I realize completely that I’m not all knowing, either. Just trying to pass on some life lessons. If you don’t want to listen to them, that’s cool. I realize that’s a part of being young.I know full well I can’t change your or anyone else’s mind(s). I didn’t listen to a lot of people in so many different cases when I was younger, either. And in a few cases, I wish I had.

EXAMPLE: Late-90s Ska. Do not @ me.

          • yummsh-av says:

Oh man, such terrible trends over the years. Remember the swing dancing craze? Very happy I never dipped my toe in that mess.

          • weirdstalkersareweird-av says:

In my high school we had a rash of Christian ska.“OOOOH let my pride fall do-”NO. Permission NOT GRANTED.

          • yummsh-av says:

“Rewind, selectah! And by selectah, I mean our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!”The ‘90s were great/terrible.

Or you’ll grow up and realize you missed out on a lot of fun by only listening to music you considered to be “art”. A lot of my favorite music now is from bands and artists I looked down on as a kid.

          • yummsh-av says:

Same here, bud. I missed out on a lot of stuff over the years because I thought I was too cool for it. Best part about that, though, is that it’s always still going to be there to listen to later. Which I do.

          • knappsterbot-av says:

It doesn’t happen to the best of us, it happened to you

  • modusoperandi0-av says:

I hate to be that guy, but shouldn’t Nas be taller than Little Nas?

  • fcz2-av says:

If he is a vampire, why is he wearing a cross earring?  Do your homework.

    • returning-the-screw-av says:

Because that’s a bullshit part of the myth that not everybody follows anyway.

      • lurklen-av says:

“Bullshit part of the myth” seems redundant, no?

        • returning-the-screw-av says:

No. I’m talking about the bullshit within the myth and not the myth itself.

          • lurklen-av says:

Haha, I see. That clears it all up then. Vampires, unholy damned souls cursed to forever crave the blood of the living while existing as a parody of God’s creation, not bullshit. Them being bothered by holy symbols that are physical representations of their antithesis, total nonsensical crap.

  • returning-the-screw-av says:

Holy shit. Was this a commercial for a bunch of things at once?

I hated the first song but this song isn’t horribly bad. Still bad. But it proves that he’s going to be one note. I wondered how long before somebody asked Nas to get in on this. I never thought Nas actually would have. But he’s a nice dude so maybe he wanted to give an up and comer a hand. Still it’s pretty bad.

  • kityglitr-av says:

I wanted the version with Cardi, damnit.
