Lindsey Buckingham is ready to talk some shit about his split from Fleetwood Mac
Aux Features Stevie NicksOf all the musician feuds we’ve been subjected to as of late, there are few as decadent as the one between Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Earlier this year, lead guitarist Buckingham was unceremoniously booted from the band after a spat regarding the current tour. Now, after filing a lawsuit against the band for said termination, it appears that he’s ready to sing like a jilted bird to Anthony Mason for CBS This Morning: Saturday, per a press release from CBS News.
So who’s to blame for the historic split? Well, it may be more complicated than we think. Kidding! It was all Nicks, by Buckingham’s account. He first learned of the brewing issue when manager Irving Azoff informed him that Nicks was livid—presumably either over Buckingham’s request to push back an upcoming tour by several months, or maybe because he “smirked” during a speech she gave on stage, there are many options here—and had issued an ultimatum, making the band choose between her or him. We’ll give you two guesses as to how that ended.
“It appeared to me that she was looking for something to hang on me, in order to instigate some kind of coup,” he hypothesizes to Mason in his first televised interview since the split. He’ll also chat about status of the lawsuit, an email that he received from former bandmate Christine McVie, and whether or not he’d ever be willing to bury the petty hatchet long enough for a reunion. Oh, and he’ll be performing a few songs from his new solo anthology, which is surely equally important.
Buckingham’s interview with Anthony Mason will air this Saturday morning, December 8, on CBS.

That guy’s hair needs a spoiler alert.
Nice to see Beakman get some work
His conversion into being the new Cold Miser is nearly complete.
Beakman? Cold Miser? Both burns are so good, 2 stars for nerd and vintage references!
….that’s some ‘do, huh?
I hope he addresses all the rumours.
Buckinham was far from a founding member. Is he even in the first 10?
He was a founding member of Buckingham Nicks!
He is certainly a defining member, but no, not a founding member.
Only Mick Fleetwood was a founding member and he never says shit.
That’s only because he’s too busy leading the resistance against The Running Man.
John McVie close as damnit. Weirdly, his name was in the band name before he was officially a member.
Who do you think the “Mac” is in Fleetwood Mac?
Yeah, but he wouldn’t quit his gig with John Mayall. Original bass player was Bob Brunning.
Listen, he was on the first record. First record = founding member. We’re not going to go calling Ringo a johnny come lately to the Beatles, are we? Heck, even by that definition, Adam Horovitz isn’t a founding Beastie Boy.
might wanna do a little research there bud ..
I don’t think Ringo or Adam Horowitz are founding members of those bands. Doesn’t diminish their importance within those bands though. Same goes for Bon Scott and Slash.
I seriously thought he died.
The Mac in Fleetwood Mac is John McVie.
“Umm, excuse me?” – John McVie
Still, his palace is pretty bitchin’.
And Stevie being the one to push him out is pretty rich, since the band invited him and he got them to add her as well.
Well he is Deandre Cole’s best friend.
Well he is Deandre Cole’s best friend.I know! What’s up with that?
Yeah, they had 9 albums released before Buckingham & Nicks joined.
As someone who’s knowledge of FM starts and ends at Rumours, but I do freaking love Rumours, do fans generally care about the first 9 albums or nah? Serious question.
In my experience, there are two groups of fans. Those that do care deeply about the early stuff, and people who don’t think it even counts.
I’m in the latter camp by default as I’ve never heard the pre-Buckingham stuff.
Yes, they do. The Peter Green era is widely acclaimed.
The Peter Green stuff is pretty great if you’re into that mid-60s British blues thing – early Yardbirds, Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, etc. Green and Jeremy Spencer are both two of the best guitarists to come out of that scene, with distinct but really complimentary styles (Spencer later joined a crazy cult to which he still belongs, I believe). You probably know a few of their songs without knowing you know them, including “Oh Well,” “Albatross,” and the original version of “Black Magic Woman.” (Danny Kirwan might have replaced Spencer on a couple of those). Anyway, yeah, they were good.
Don’t forget “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)“ which was more famously covered and made a staple of their catalogue by Judas Priest
Nobody said he was. Still, the only version of a Buckingham-less Fleetwood Mac that would be worth bothering with would be one that revisited one of the earlier blues-rock incarnations of the band, by coaxing Peter Green out of retirement, or one of the other guys out of a cult or death. Fuck this bullshit version touring recently.
Considering Peter Green is dead, that would be something I’d pay to see. Also, a “bullshit version” that includes a member of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame from a different band, as well as the wonderful singer/songwriter talent of Neil Finn, sounds just fine to me.
Point taken. However, he is a fingerpicking god and you can at least put some respect on his name by spelling it right.
He looks like a weird cross between Glenn Close and Art Garfunkel. Oh, and a troll gonk.
Aww. They should be a couple. Glart.
Arse
I don’t know much about Glart, but I know what I like!
Looks more like Beavis to me.
Go your own way.
Keep in mind all these allegations are still just that–> rumours.
Well shit, maybe we’ll get some sweet new Fleetwood Mac hits from the creative inspiration from the conflict
Holy shit! I’m dumbstruck! I can’t believe this! Fleetwood Mac still exists?
Anthony Mason. Man, that guy could rebound like a mother fucker. Good to see him still doing so well.
He got his hair cut correct
As much as it would have been awesome to have Buckingham be a part of the tour, Neil Finn was a really excellent choice to replace him.
Well, Finn and Campbell. It says something about the guy’s talent that it takes two other amazingly talented guys to replace him.Not sure which lineup I’d prefer, honestly. Wouldn’t be pissed at either.
Ha, yeah, fair point. They had a bunch of other people on stage beyond the core group so I wasn’t really sure if Campbell was filling in for his guitar or just generally filling the band out more, whereas Finn sang Buckingham’s parts so it was very easy to identify him as a straight up replacement haha
Eh. That guy hasn’t really been worth bothering with since Split Enz broke up.
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you.
Dude Neil Finn sounds awful singing these songs. Mike Campbell is awesome though and should be in every band.
Lindsey Buckingham is ready to talk some shit about this split from Fleetwood MacFTFY!
This is all I think of when there’s a mention of Fleetwood Mac.
What’s up with that?
Here’s to Lindsey getting bumped for time again!
Ah Lindsey! I’m so sorry Lindsey! Come on Lindsey, gimme a smile Lindsey! Come on Lindsey!
[Lindsey breaks out into a smile and shrugs.]
Ah! You’re my best friend Lindsey!
The author couldn’t be bothered for anything, apparently…
Is this about Pete Green?
Sweet Heat Miser hairdo.
It’s too much!
Oh the people who don’t believe in the “FM guitarist curse”… 😥 This is what was gonna happen sooner or later and what will happen to his replacements. JK, but seriously it is a little weird. I respect him as a guitarist and a creator but he is far from a founding member and even further from the only reason FM is so spectacular. Mick and John deserve a lot of credit for what they do… #RespectTheRhythmSection
My husband’s love for Lindsey Buckingham and fucking Holiday Road is a “I love him in spite of.”
I want to be friends with your husband.
Same here.
that’s a fun song (plus I always picture Vacation when I hear it)… and it’s short. Not like it’s a Phish tune or anything.
Matt Pond PA vastly improved that song.
Seriously, you should thank your husband for putting up with you.
Nothing to say but holy shit I’m shocked to learn Holiday Road is a Lindsey Buckingham song.
So, the guy is named Lindsey, and the girl is named Stevie? What’s Kevin Hart’s take on this? Hi-yo!
I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want to take this luxurious couch on tour.
That seems perfectly reasonable, given that he’s often FULL of shit.
Fuck both Buckingham and Nicks! I’m sick to death of both of them. Everyone always leaves Christine McVie in the dirt, but she’s fantastic.
#TeamMcVie ?
#McVieToo
And that’s all the time we have here on What Up With That. Sorry, Lindsey. Maybe next time.
He really should stop thinking about tomorrow.
Despite being talented, if the ultimatum is him or Nicks, it’s going to be Nicks. She’s the star of the group. However, I think it’s petty and without allegations of something substantial, it’s just drama and after all they’ve been through she should be above it. They are coworkers, they can fake it like the rest of us….while earning buckets of cash every night.
When is he going to apologize for Holiday Road, though?
