The first trailer for Rose Glass’ Love Lies Bleeding made the movie seem like a lot of fun, with Kristen Stewart playing a woman named Lou who manages a gym and falls in love with an aspiring bodybuilder who gets a job doing some dirty work for Lou’s criminal father, but this second trailer strikes a more harrowing tone. Perhaps, it dares to suggest, going on a love-fueled quest for vengeance isn’t so much “fun” as it is… scary. And dangerous. And just really, dramatically intense.

One of the main things in this new trailer is a few repeated shots of longhaired Ed Harris lit in bright red, which makes him seem full-on terrifying. That’s without even counting the screaming and smashing and shooting he does. Westworld ended only a couple of years ago, but it’s good to see him playing a full-on creep-bastard again. He’s good at it.

But enough about Ed Harris, he’s not what people want to see here! People want to see Kristen Stewart falling in love with a bodybuilder (Katy O’Brian, who was actually in an episode of Westworld and played shady Imperial villain Elia Kane on The Mandalorian) and having to literally fight for each other. Dave Franco is hanging around here somewhere (he was more prominently featured in the previous one, playing a dirtbag who is probably a criminal at Ed Harris’ gun range), and the film also features Anna Baryshnikov and Jena Malone.

Love Lies Bleeding is Glass’ first film since 2019’s religious horror movie Saint Maud, and it currently holds a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes after its premiere at Sundance earlier this year. Love Lies Bleeding will be in theaters on March 8.
