Maria Bamford loses her shit, finds herself in an exclusive Lady Dynamite trailer

Maria Bamford’s stand-up comedy often finds her deftly weaving references to her lifelong struggle with mental illness into more mundane topics—whenever she’s not addressing it directly, anyway. She remains forthcoming in Lady Dynamite, the original Netflix series she stars in with SNL alum Ana Gasteyer, Playing Houses Lennon Parham, and Fred Melamed (A Serious Man). The A.V. Club is exclusively premiering the trailer, which features Bamford remaining surprisingly chipper against mounting odds, including her bleak dating prospects, wandering into the wrong audition, and getting punched by a guinea pig.

Bamford executive produced the 12-episode series along with Pam Brady and Mitch Hurwitz, and has recruited fellow comedians like Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt, and Tig Notaro as guest stars. Lady Dynamite premieres May 20 in its entirety on Netflix.
