Mark Cuban wants to make the Sharknado of Elvis movies, whatever that is

Aux Features TV

Even though a perfectly good made-for-TV movie about Elvis—one that launched the timeless actor/director pairing of Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, no less—already exists, Mark Cuban, the entrepreneur-turned-reality-personality who combines the most appealing personality traits of both, insists on making another one. Cuban announced his intentions this morning, when he revealed that the inaugural project for his newly-founded company AXS TV will be a made-for-TV movie called Elvis Lives!

Produced in partnership with The Asylum, naturally, Elvis Lives! will take place in a world where “Elvis never really left the building,” which, if it means a zombie Elvis in a dirty white jumpsuit, someone will have to pay. Probably not, though, because the company has released a vague outline of the story, and it goes like this:

Plagued by drug addiction and a failing voice, the King is desperate to make things right with himself, his deceased brother and God. His attempts to get back on track are thwarted, however, after he helps the cops bring down a powerful crime syndicate — putting his family in danger and sending him on a journey that will change his life forever.

“With Elvis Lives! we intend to do for the life of Elvis Presley what Sharknado did for flying sharks,” Asylum president David Rimawi says of the project, though, further confusing things. Maybe the CIA shoots Elvis into space?
