Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry, the writers behind Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain (a recent addition to the National Film Registry), are reuniting for a new film called Good Joe Bell starring Mark Wahlberg, Connie Britton, and Reid Miller from the Go90 streaming series Play By Play (remember Go90?). The movie is based on a true story, and as explained in a press release, it’s about a guy named Joe Bell who “sets out on a walk across America with his son, Jadin.” That’s not helpful at all, but perhaps the press release decided to stay vague because the real story of Joe Bell and his son Jadin is brutal.

We won’t spoil it here, because it’s all too sad to go into, but it’s safe to say that Good Joe Bell is going to be just as much about issues facing LGBTQ youth, teen suicide, and reckless driving as much as it’ll be about a cross-country walk.

Dear Hollywood,I’d prefer that Mark Wahlberg be kept far away from any films dealing with LGBT themes. Thanks.

In honor of him not with him.

I just went out and read the Jadin and Joe Bell story and oh God this movie is going to be emotional horror show. I’m also really surprised by the casting Wahlberg as this doesn’t seem like a character type he excels with.

When pressed with how this film will reflect his stance as America’s macho macho God lover, Wahlberg assured his fans he said “no homo” before signing the contract.

Shit, I read the story of Joe and Jadin Bell, and that is heartbreaking. This is going to be tough to watch.

When walking across America with his son, he sees an asian person and tell his son, “See that, that’s an Asian person, punch them in the eye until they are blinded on that eye and then walk away, this is a really good lesson for you to learn about the future because even after doing that, no one cares”

This movie is just going to be about the dad, huh? Not the kid? Maybe he’ll be like a vision in the desert? Marky-Mark probably going to find a way to do a shirtless scene in this movie about a boy committing suicide due to hate-crimes and a dad who was killed while trying to honor his son? Christ, this sounds six different kinds of bad.

Anyone else think that Connie Britton is poised to take over all of the roles that would formerly have been going to Felicity Huffman?

    You spelled Marky Mark wrong
