Marvel, Moana, and more: All the Disney Investor Day news dump in one convenient location

An investors call doesn’t sound like an exciting thing to be on, unless it’s on Succession or something. But Disney Investor Day was anything but a snoozefest on Thursday, with the massive conglomerate announcing its further world domination with approximately 7,642 new projects coming down the pipeline that will capitalize on the established popularity of everything from Moana and Tiana to Sister Act and Alien. It was practically impossible for the A.V. Club staff to keep up with all the potential headlines coming out of the call, but we did our best. Here’s everything in one convenient location to save you the trouble of hunting everything down individually.

And here’s the raw notes we’ve taken on the rest that we’re still trying to get to but our fingers won’t type fast enough:

  • The Handmaid’s Tale renewed for season 5
  • Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted (an Enchanted sequel) in the works
  • James Mangold is doing a new Indiana Jones
  • The Kardashians/Jenners have been absorbed by Disney with new content deal
  • The Mighty Ducks reboot got a trailer
  • A new Ice Age film in the works, as well as an animated Night At The Museum sequel
  • An Up series about Doug the dog coming, as well as a Cars series about Lightning McQueen and Mater
  • Pixar’s first original series is about softball
  • Ms. Marvel will be in Captain Marvel 2
  • Tim Roth will reprise his The Incredible Hulk role, The Abomination, in She-Hulk
  • Don Cheadle’s War Machine to be leading character in Armor Wars series, about what happens when Tony Stark’s armor falls into the wrong hands
  • Guardians Of The Galaxy holiday special coming from James Gunn
  • Jonathan Majors playing Kang the Conquerer in Ant-Man 3
  • Atlanta seasons 3 and 4 will start airing on Disney+ in 2021
  • Turner & Hooch reboot stars a good boy

To quote our senior writer Katie Rife’s slack as our internet culture editor Randall Colburn continued to provide live updates to our virtual newsroom: “I know you’re not, but it feels like you’re just making shit up at this point.”

We’ll continue to update this as more news comes in.

As an aside, I’ve mentioned Wiccan and Speed, Vision and Wanda’s children by way of Chaos Magic, Demon Soul Shards, and reincarnation and the expansive family tree that is the Pym Extended Family Tree before.Recently, after the event Empyre, Wiccan married his boyfriend Hulkling. This greatly expands the Pym Extended Family Tree significantly as Hulking is the son of Mar-Vell (Who is a guy in the comics.) and a Skrull princess. So now the Pym Extended Family Tree now includes, but is not limited to, the following:Genus-Vell and Phyla-Vell, Hulklings half-siblings who were artificially created by Mar-Vell’s girlfriend Elysius. Xavin, a Super Skrull and former member of the Runaway’s, who’s Hulkling’s distant cousin on his mother’s side. And finally the Skrull Cows, who are also Hulkling’s distant cousins. They first appeared in Fantastic Four #2 and were the scouting team sent by the Skrull Empire to survey Earth for invasion. After the FF stopped them, Reed decided to prevent them from reporting back to their superiors by having them turn into cows, brainwash them to believe they were cows, and left them on a farm. They stayed there for a while until The Kree-Skrull War when they got the brainwashing undone. They were later captured by the Alien Activities Commission and were turned back into cows. Some of them were turned into beef and the Skrull-tainted meat wound up giving people superpowers…The rest were rounded up by normal Skrulls who kept them on a farm in South Dakota along with the Skrull-Cow hybrids that were conceived by accident.

New  Yup, just saw that. Owen Wilson is a weird fit for the MCU, but so far I like it.Also, I’m pretty sure those stone statues being worshipped in the TVA are supposed to be the Timekeepers.Pay no attention to the little man with the tall hat and purple cape. I’m sure he will have no bearing on this story.

It’s a shame that all of the TVA employees are not all clones of Mark Gruenwald…

This info about the Timekeepers me wonder if we’ll see any connection between the Loki series and the third Ant-Man movie now that Kang the Conqueror has been cast. The major common thread among most of the new series is their major interconnectivity with other properties.

Lot of people hating on Disney but they absolutely threw down the gauntlet today. They hit their subscriber projections for 2024 within a year and now have near tripled their expectations for the next four years. They announced big projects with all of their IP and talked about 100+ original shows and movies on D+ a year.Personally am most excited by the Mulaney and Samberg Rescue Rangers. Aside from being excited about being a DIS investor.

Now all Disney needs is to get Biden in office, and enact his 100million in 100 days plan so that the parks can open by summer and they’d be set.

I’m sad (but not surprised) that there’s nothing announced involving Muppets. But my mood is slightly less hurt by the fact that there’ll be a new Ant-Man movie. And boy, do I not want that Rescue Rangers movie starring Andy Samberg and John Mulaney (they’re classic Disney characters; it’d be like getting a celeb to be Goofy or Mickey for a movie).

OK, you can just close this comments section down. Nothing’s going to beat Katie Rife’s response.

A Guardians of the Galaxy christmas special will be amazingly cheezy.  I love it!

At the risk of sounding like a huge wet blanket, I just can’t. I can’t with any of this. I get about 2 or 3 of the things above happening, like Fantastic Four and Atlanta, and some of the Moana and Tiana kids’ shows. But honestly, this whole thing feels insanely condescending. “Hey, you stupid fucks like your Mighty Ducks, and your Chip & Dale, and your Pixar, and your superheroes. So here *empties out bag onto floor* eat it up, you losers. And you dumb shits won’t take our new Star Wars with Rey and Kylo Ren, ungrateful dorks, so here’s just all the old stuff again – Rogue Squadron and Obi Wan and Boba Fett, except he’s not and he’s got a little Yoda, and we’re going to do like 10,000 things with that. Just suck on our big, fat content hose, you pathetic little muppets. Oh, yeah: no Muppets. Fuck your Muppets. You’ll get it when we think you’re ready.”Look, I know I’m being an asshat about this: “hey fucko, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. We all want it.” And that’s cool, honestly. If any or all of the above things sound good to you, cool, I hope you enjoy it, seriously. And it’s an investor’s call: I’m sure a bunch of things won’t happen, so why don’t I just calm down. But this feels like the moment I was dreading when Disney bought Fox: just a giant, undifferentiated mass of ‘product’ that never stops trying to play on cheap nostalgia. This is Ready Player One, except every player gets all the references, and the prize is more repurposed content. Forever.Done yelling at a cloud.
