If you’ve noticed an uptick in pictures of crescent-shaped projectiles and Oscar Isaac looking perplexed on the internet, it can only mean one thing: Moon Knight fever is upon us at last.

Yes, the internet has gone plum wild for Marvel’s most beloved fifth-tier vigilante, a character with a backstory so simple and iconic that we feel a little silly printing it here: Marc Spector is a former CIA mercenary betrayed by a comrade, who leaves him to die in an ancient Egyptian temple where he’s revived by the god Khonshu; Spector then decides to fight crime, aided by a few allies and also by the various personalities manifested by his dissociative identity disorder, including a tough-as-nails cabbie. Sometimes he has powers!

Anyway: We bring this up, not just because we’re always thinking about our man Moon Knight, but because there are rumors circulating online today that Disney+ has set a premiere date for its TV adaptation of the character, starring Isaac as Spector: March 30.

That’s fairly soon, given that we still know precious little about the series, aside from Isaac’s involvement. (He also serves as executive producer.) The series will presumably feature some version of the character’s origin story; it’s also set to co-star May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke, the latter playing a character whose portrayal Hawke has said was based on David Koresh. Fun!

It’s worth noting that this “March 30" release date is percolating up from some pretty murky parts of the superhero movie media ecosystem; Disney itself has yet to issue any kind of formal announcement about when the series might air. All we’ve gotten so far is a bit of teaser footage that leaked out of the company’s Disney+ Day last November, showing Isaac looking pretty confused about this whole “beating up bad guys for fun and profit” thing.

Never trust a man with two first names.

This is that superhero who shows his ass to everyone, right? And Isaac’s playing him?  Sign me up!

“Ethan Hawke . . . playing a character whose portrayal Hawke has said was based on David Koresh. Fun!”Oh yeah, nothing says “family fun” like David Koresh! 😉

Marc Spector didn’t “decide” to fight crime. He was charged, as the Fist of Khonshu, to serve as protector to all those who travel at night. Sheesh!

Let’s just hope Dracula and his debts are covered in one of the episodes
    (Yes I know it’s photoshopped. No I don’t care)

Bit worried about this one. The one line he had in the trailer, his accent sounded like he was going for ‘prepubescent Dick Van Dyke Cockney’.

As Moon Knight has dissociative identity disorder, pretty sure that’s the voice of his alter ego and not the actual character.

No shitty guitar playing, no Koresh!

People are really desperate for info on anything right now, aren’t they. Even if this rumor is true, there’s still 6 weeks between when Boba Fett ends and this could start that has nothing announced. I’m sure if we just wait a week or two they’ll announce what the next headline D+ show will be.

Wouldn’t Ms. Marvel come first? It finished filming back in May while Moon Knight wrapped in October.

The delay in the movie schedule may delay when Ms Marvel gets released.

      • akabrownbear-av says:

Maybe but not sure why that would matter that much. Wandavision leads directly into Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and was still released in January 2021 despite the movie having been delayed to March 2022 at that point (it subsequently got delayed another two months to May more recently). Also now that I think about it, Wandavision also kind of leads into The Marvels given it introduces Monica Rambeau as an adult.

        • jmyoung123-av says:

Yeah. I see your point. Given that, in particular, the Rambeau thing. It does appear that Ms. Marvel will have greater ties to Marvels than WandaVision does to Doc Strange, but if Ranbeau is going to have a significant presence in the Captains Marvel film as well, then sure.

Yea – I mean the other thing is MCU fans are pretty much used to one year waits for payoffs to things teased in a given movie already, so not sure why it needs to be different for shows. I get it when shows are supposed to follow movies – like I know TFATWS was supposed to follow Black Widow and JLD’s character was supposed to be introduced first in the movie. But for preceding events, they should just air when ready because D+ direly needs content.

I am really looking forward to this – and also slightly apprehensive – as Moon Knight has long been one of my favourite Marvel characters in print, and Isaac is a great actor. Hopefully it lives up to its potential.

Kinda concerned how little we have heard about Miss Marvel. I wonder if Disney is thinking they have a stinker and trying to shuffle it until everyone forgets about it.

    • ghostiet-av says:

I think it’s more to the fact that they’ve been filming the show in a VERY strict manner – they segmented the show into 3 production “bubbles” so COVID doesn’t delay them further, but I imagine it would make things very slow and increase the weight on post-production.It’s also the least self-contained show of theirs currently in production – it’s crucial to the setup of The Marvels, Captain Marvel’s sequel, and that’s slated for February 2023. Marvel got a bunch of its products shuffled around due to COVID, with shows debuting in the wrong order and big delays – if that show gets moved down the line for some reason, they’ll have to reorganize their entire slate for Phase 4. It makes sense for them to put it out closer to the film to make sure nothing gets fucked and they can use it to promote it.

I think it’s more likely the result of franchise crossover logistics. They probably want to position its PR around the upcoming captain marvel sequel for maximum effect.

“You screwed me over with characterisation last time, Mouse House. Never again!”“So you don’t want to play a supernatural vigilante with multiple personalities?”“You son of a bitch, you got me. Sign me up!”

It pains me knowing how all these covid shows are hindered and we’ll never ever see what could really have been. Goes for Boba too.

Isaac looking pretty confused about this whole “beating up bad guys for fun and profit” thing I’m confused about it too, but I’ll still do it.

  • norwoodeye-av says:

Or maybe wait until you have something to report.
