Matt Smith to sing, dance, and kill people in the American Psycho musical

Aux Features Theater

Matt Smith is set to star as Patrick Bateman in a that previously reported musical version of American Psycho. The Doctor Who star, who just finished filming his final episode of the show, has already begun rehearsals for the stage adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel, which will start previews on December 3 at London’s Almeida Theatre and run through January 25 of next year.

Deadline reports that Smith will step into the Christian Bale role of a homicidal investment banker with a fondness for Huey Lewis. While a cameo from Lewis' tunes or Bateman's other favorites probably isn't likely, it will feature music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Glee). Presumably potential song titles include “The Business Card Pas De Deux,” “I Have to Return Some Videotapes (Reprise),” “Feed Me A Stray Cat,” and “I Want To Stab You To Death, And Then Play Around With Your Blood (The Ballad Of Patrick Bateman)”
