And so the summer movie season begins with a whimper. Unfortunately, because of the work stoppages last summer that the studios dragged out for about six months, there are very few releases this May, leaving multiplexes without a superhero in sight. While this lack of offerings wasn’t as noticeable in the doldrums of winter, movie theaters will see some belt-tightening this May. Still, it’s quality, not quantity, and May doesn’t have a lot of either.
Nevertheless, the things worth getting pumped for are very worth getting pumped for, including The Fall Guy and the long-awaited return of Furiosa (remember her?). We’ll survive another Garfield if it means we can ride eternal on the fury road.

I mean bullet train wasn’t good, Pitt is the main reason there, and even though I like all involved in this, i’ve heard it doesn’t all mesh with the forced romance and bad plot, so it doesn’t interest me, and I watched the original show, can’t remember anything about it except Steve Austin showed up and a blonde chick… would of been better to remake the Burt Reynolds flick Hooper if you want to highlight stunt workers IMO…
Starred for remembrance of Hooper.
My memory of The Fall Guy extends to the premise being that the stuntman moonlights as a bounty hunter. And having a catchy-as-hell theme song.EDIT: But I quite liked Bullet Train, so that’s where we diverge.
Same on Bullet Train. It’s basically John Wick…on a train. Weird underground codes of conduct, everyone knows who each other is, etc. Probably wouldn’t seek it out again, but enjoyable enough for in-flight entertainment.
sorry I actually didn’t watch Bullet Train lol reason being I didn’t see Pitt as being an actor in it, just a Hollywood Star, so in those instances where when I look at the screen I wont see the character to be portrayed as so much so it doesn’t interest me… I think the Fall Guy was like a A-Team, McGuyver era show where they where all “bounty hunterish” and had some tricks up their sleeve type incidents is all I really remember…
This actually looks like a pretty solid month to me. Furiosa will kill (haha), the Fall Guy looks charming as hell, couple of good horror options, an appealing looking family movie or two (not Garfield, but who knows), and the Apes movies seem to have developed an audience. Dead Don’t Hurt sounds like Cold Mountain in the antebellum west, which isn’t a terrible bet.
Oh cool Robot Dreams is finally coming out. Isn’t that an animated film without dialogue? So interesting.
If Furiosa isn’t the best western action franchise film of all time I’m ending it all
What’s “San Fransisco”?
Cool: Real-life marrieds Cannavale and Byrne are working together. Not cool: It’s in a road trip movie, just about the most hackneyed premise imaginable.
