Few superhero movies have toiled for longer to see the light of day than the Ezra Miller Flash movie, a film that was once set for release all the way back in March 2018. Originally seen as something of a casualty in the long battles that have been waged between WarnerMedia, Zack Snyder, and the formerly scheduled to co-star Ray Fisher over and around Justice League, the film actually appears to have finally been shot, courtesy of It director Andy Muschietti.

To help build a little hype for its upcoming release, Warner has released our very first look at the film today as part of its DC FanDome event, complete with Miller on (virtual) hand to preview the footage. And while the actor notes that there’s not enough footage available yet to cut a trailer or teaser…He then released what we’re pretty comfortable calling a teaser, especially since it gives us a few behind-the-back glimpses at the much-anticipated return of Michael Keaton as his old-school version of Batman. (Ben Affleck is also supposed to be in here somewhere, although we don’t see any sign of him in today’s teaser—we do get two Millers, though.)

DC has yet to release the official teaser online, but unofficial uploads are already making their way onto YouTube.

Keaton also provides (we think?) the voiceover on the teaser, asking why Barry Allen—capable as he is of going anywhere, in all reality—is fighting for one particular branch of the multiverse. (We’re guessing it has something to do with dead mom stuff, given all the other imagery in the teaser.) There’s also a little bit of that pure fun that made Flash one of the better aspects of Justice League, including Miller’s giddy joy at what at least appears to be him pulling a dusty cloth off of the Keaton-era Batmobile.

The Flash is currently set to debut in November of 2022. The film co-stars Affleck, Sasha Calle, Kiersey Clemmons, and Maribel Verdú.

True story: I lived in a suburb of Paris when Burton’s Batman came out, and the itty-bitty-tiny movie theater w/2 screens in the area plastered ads for it EVERYWHERE, but never realized they had a typo in the ads, so for more than a year, there were ads everywhere telling everyone to go see “BAMTAN.”

      Are you from Earth-2??

      • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

Isn’t he called Mantis on Earth-2?r/fringe

      • h3rm35-av says:

Was there an actual Earth-2 “Bamtan” thing? I’m curious, because it was just something my brother and I joked about for years. I’d love a screengrab for my files, so I can pop it out in a Christmas message or something.

    • asdfasdf12asdf-av says:

are you hoping for “THA FLESH” advertisements plastered everywhere this time?

    • amfo-av says:

The first place I ever saw the “new” 1989 Batman logo was on a billboard near the campsite in Amsterdam where my family was staying. It had no writing on it, just the logo:My mother said: “What is that… teeth?”
In writing this I realise I am now 4 years older than my mother was when she saw that bat-logo.

I was on George Street in Sydney when one of the main cinemas had meticulously spelled out for Gus Van Sant’s remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s film “PHYCHO” on glass no less (to be illuminated by light behind it). That was only up for a few hours, though.

      • h3rm35-av says:

That’s HILARIOUS!!I wish we all had phone cameras back then (LMFAO!) to document this stuff.Cell phones make all of this more visible, but also more likely to be fixed, which is sad.
All hail the Old Days when we could make fun of co.’s for weeks before they caught on, LOL!Unfortunately, sharing the goof would probably end it these days.

  • mark-t-man-av says:

There’s also a little bit of that pure fun that made Flash one of the better aspects of Justice LeagueWell, he sure looks like he’s having fun with Iris, and her hair.

Between this and Black Adam, it can only be days until we hear about the Gambit movie.

  • haodraws-av says:

Looks intriguing. A more focused, less event-y Flashpoint as the main plot holds promise. We’ve seen that there’ll be two Barrys in the movie, but the teaser also seemingly confirms that the other Barry will also be the Flash of his(also Batkeaton’s?) Earth. That Flash helmet needs some more work, though.

  • thefilthywhore-av says:

I think it’s hilarious that Michael Keaton’s Batman is older and presumably wiser, yet still rocking that cowl that prevents him from turning his neck.

  • rev-skarekroe-av says:

New Flash suit looks great.Don’t know why Flash would be so excited to see this Batmobile.  It’s not that much cooler than the Batmobile from his universe.  If it was the ‘66 Batmobile, though…

    • tobias-lehigh-nagy-av says:

My take was that maybe he didn’t realize where he was after jumping into another timeline, then he uncovered the Batmobile and realized he was in the Batcave. The new Flash costume looks great, much better than the clunky space junk held together with baling wire that was the Justice League Flash costume.

    • yttruim-av says:

I think given the overly highly geek nature of this Flash, i would say that any batmobile would get him excited.

    • slbronkowitzpresents-av says:

It’s tons cooler than the Batfleckmobiletank.

    • spaceladel-av says:

There is some precedent for the Flash being aware of comic book stuff on a meta level, so maybe Batman ‘89 was a real movie in his universe? Not that WB would ever go with something like that, but it’s a fun idea.

    • sanjnimm-av says:

Pretty sure that’s the Barry Allen from Keaton’s universe, not the Flash we know from the Snyderverse. So he’s seeing his universe’s (Keaton’s) Batmobile for the first time in-person hence the excitement!

    • mykinjaa-av says:

Yeah you can see the outline of his scrote. *Chef’s kiss*

    • joel-fleischman-av says:

From what I saw in that teaser, it looks like two different versions of Ezra in the movie, at least. In the one scene where Ezra asks someone offscreen if they’re in, there are two Ezras. One has short hair and the other has long hair (long hair version also appears to be rocking a Flash costume with what appears to be a painted-on emblem, so I’m assuming that is the same costume we see getting spray painted in the teaser). The same long hair Barry is in a couple other scenes with a yellow-sleeved coat on. There is the one scene where a yellow-sleeved hand is touching what appears to be a hairy-armed, possibly dead hand (maybe Keaton in a later scene?). Then another scene where long-haired Barry appears to be pulling a sheet back off of his mom (?). And the scene where Barry pulls the sheet off the Batmobile is also the long-haired, yellow-sleeved Barry. So I’m assuming THAT universe’s (Earth-89, right?) Barry Allen, with the long hair, is geeking out because he’s seeing the Batmobile he grew up with, in the fiberglass flesh. That universe’s Barry has never had to suffer seeing our Snyderverse Batmobile, and has only had the pleasure of seeing the sexy Anton Furst-designed Batmobile.Since we see a shot of what appears to be the 89 cowl and batsuit on a wet and bloody bathroom floor, and we see the yellow-sleeved hand touching a hairy-armed hand, maybe Earth-89’s “Barry” is actually named Terry, and this kid actually becomes Batman Beyond?! Keaton realizes that he’s too old to keep fighting, so he recruits Terry to take up the mantle?

  • TRT-X-av says:

If it features Affleck *and* Keaton’s Batsman… that’s not standalone.

Okay, I gotta admit I’ve got a big smile on my face after watching that. Michael Keaton’s Batman, similar music to The Flash TV show, and the Flash having the superpower I would want if I could only have one superpower. I’m in.

There is something just, I dunno, silly? about the conflation of “parallel dimensions” and “different versions of the Batman film franchise”.

Capitalism at its finest, man. Oh, these aren’t different attempts at commercial exploitation of a property, they’re different timelines.

    • qwerty11111-av says:

Yes, Warner Bros keeps making movies because of capitalism.

    • fritzalexander13-av says:

      …what?

Batman is one of the core characters of Flashpoint’s alternate timeline. It’s been that way since that story’s debut in 2011. Including Batman here isn’t because of “capitalism,” it’s faith to the source material.

    • earlydiscloser-av says:

“There is something just, I dunno, silly? about…”Batman.

    • yodathepeskyelf-av says:

How is this worse than any other franchise movie? Isn’t every adaptation an attempt at commericial “exploitation” of a property? (Is it “exploiting a property” to make a movie about a character you own?)
In conclusion, I only wish Christian Bale showed up so that he and Keaton could re-enact the part of Neighbors when Seth Rogen and Zach Efron bond over their respective generations’ default Batman impression.

    • ageeighty-av says:

I mean, this is what Marvel is doing with Spider-Man, too. And DC also did it once already in the Arrowverse to an even more insane degree with their Crisis crossover event.

      • doubleudoubleudoubleudotpartycitydotpig-av says:

it’s stupid that marvel’s doing it too

      • h3rm35-av says:

DC didn’t do that, Greg Berlanti did, because he saw WB getting its shit together for the cinematic universe.Berlanti and his Vancouver crew knew he was on borrowed time, so they did The Big Thing.By this time 2 years from now, no one will remember the CW/Berlanti series even existed.

        • ageeighty-av says:

I don’t see how it matters who exactly pulled it off; the point is Flash is neither the first nor the only franchise equating past iterations of a franchise with alternate universes. Hell, even the comics themselves have done a lot of this.

          • h3rm35-av says:

It matters because The Flash is DC’s “Spiderman.”The entry level Super Hero, younger, smart-guy that people originally relate to and expand from.As a production studio, would you rather that look come from a back-lot with bad actors, or would you prefer a fully financially-backed front-line assault?

          • ageeighty-av says:

I didn’t say it doesn’t matter to anyone, but it’s irrelevant to the point being made by the person I replied to and to my comment to them. They were speaking as if it’s silly for this film to conflate those two concepts and I was pointing out it’s not the first to do so and specifically that it’s not exclusively a DC thing. That’s all.

    • dwarfandpliers-av says:

I remember watching the animated Spiderman and its introduction of the “multiverse” and being completely underwhelmed by it; it just seems lazy, like the writers can’t come up with anything new or interesting in today’s boring reality, so let’s turn everything into a nostalgic “hey look who that is!” exercise. Knowing they were going to shoehorn Doc Ock and at least one of the last two “Spidermen” (neither of whom I would imagine wanted to be in this apart from the paycheck) into the next Spiderman actually deflated my interest in seeing it.

      • gargsy-av says:

“so let’s turn everything into a nostalgic “hey look who that is!” exercise.”

What the fuck are you talking about? Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen and Noir Spider-Man are all “nostalgia”.

        Fuck off.

    • monsterdook-av says:

I credit fan service by filmmakers who grew up being inspired by those movies. How many directors would have loved the chance to get Michael Keaton back in the Bat suit?
And DC Comics has been using parallel universes as a way of explaining multiple versions of its characters for decades, so it all kind of falls into place. I doubt WB execs are dorky enough (or imaginative enough) to have thought to dust off previous properties and exploit them beyond a 7th super ultimate edition bluray release.

    • gargsy-av says:

Good point. They should’ve had all completely unrecognizable versions of the characters. Boy, wouldn’t THAT be fun?

    • ofaycanyouseeme-av says:

I love that people are coming for capitalism these days, it’s long overdue. So welcome to the grown-up table. But capitalism didn’t specifically do that. All kinds of leftist arguments against Batman can be made, and against DC, and against Warner Bros. But having a multiversal crossover can just be cool. OFC it can also be a shitshow like CW’s Crisis, but that’s another story.

    • mrfallon-av says:

Just to clarify, I’m talking specifically about dragging back Michael Keaton, not parallel universes as a concept (and yes, I recognise that Spider-Man is doing it too and if this were a Spider-Man post I’d be saying it about him too). I’m talking about the way they are taking a previous franchise – that is, a discrete commercial enterprise – which concluded when the commercial confidence dwindled, and which they actively sought distance from during the first “reboot” as a means of shoring up the authenticity of the new franchise. Now that nostalgia is a thing, they’ve gone: oh no, that Keaton Batman wasn’t a franchise that outlived it’s commercial usefulness, it’s a parallel dimension. When I say “silly” what I mean is the conflation of “parallel universe” with “version of the franchise”. That’s just dumb, conceptually.
Now movies are allowed to be dumb, if they weren’t we’d have even fewer Batman movies than we currently have, heaven forbid, but it’s still very funny and silly.Like, isn’t the Keaton Batman also technically the Kilmer and Clooney Batmans/Batmen? Or are those also now parallel universes? I kind of hope it’s the former because then they could make an episode of the Batman films where they claim that his appearance was changed by timeline-altering demigods rather than movie executives.Maybe that Lord Of The Rings show can have an episode where they step into a portal and all become rotoscoped, and an animated Gandalf can say “oh, you thought I was a different version of Gandalf from when someone else held the rights to Lord Of The Rings?  No silly!  I’m just the Gandalf from the animated dimension and I exists in the same universe as Ian McKellen’s one!”

    • h3rm35-av says:

I mean… Marvel/Disney can try it but their history onscreen kinda sucks. Before this new “revitalization” pretty much everything “Marvel” sucked ass.Go ahead and dig backwards, Marvel, but you won’t find much worth repeating outside of the comics you’ve published.(don’t get me wrong, DC is pretty bad too, but they have more history.)

  • fritzalexander13-av says:

The suit looks alright, but in that shot of Miller in front of the waterfall, he looks like he’s made of plastic. I really need to see how it looks in-motion.

  • willoughbystain-av says:

Oh boy, I can’t wait to see long dormant, iconic late-80s characters like “Batman” and props like “the batcave” and ”the Batmobile” again after all these years! So nostalgic!

  • robgrizzly-av says:

I consider Keaton’s Batman a wholly Tim Burton creation, so it will be interesting/weird to see another director basically try to pull it off. Will it seem like a cheap imitation?

  • notoriousblackout-av says:

Let’s hope that somebody at Warner Bros. had the balls to tell Andy Muschietti “no” this time. “It: Chapter Two” was an entertaining trainwreck, but “disciplined” is not a word I’d use to describe it.

  • cscurrie-av says:

who are the people flanking Barry in the Batcave?

Last I heard from Ezra Miller he was punching women, right? Uh…doesn’t that bear a mention?

    • gargsy-av says:

He dickhead, how about you find a SINGLE article about him punching women.

      I’ll wait.

Oh, you can’t? You’re SO ENRAGED BY HIS ACTIONS that you don’t remember what they were?

Yeah, you’ve got lots of moral high ground, spreading lies about someone.

  • hootiehoo2-av says:

I seriously lost it when I saw the Batman pointy ears. I’m 48 and remember seeing Batman 89 in the theater at a midnight showing in Sunnyside Queens NY.Funny story, my brother my friends (4 of us total) all sat all over the place because we couldn’t get seats together. Some guy 2 rows in front of me and next to my brother and friend clearly drunk falls asleep as the movie starts and snores so loudly. My brother is 18, I’m 15 my brother and my friend don’t do anything. I lean over two rows and smack that fucker in the head he wakes up and the theater all starts to giggly and small applause. Anyway lets go Keaton! Flashpoint! And who the fuck is gonna be Zoom!

  • dwarfandpliers-av says:

so it was due to be released 3+ years ago but wasn’t; and now it’s not due to be released for another year? That is NOT a screaming vote of confidence from the studio even with this teaser.  I hope it kills just to bolster Ezra Miller’s career and to remind everyone studio executives don’t know shit.

    • gargsy-av says:

“so it was due to be released 3+ years ago but wasn’t; and now it’s not due to be released for another year?”

What do you mean it was “due to be released 3+ years ago”? Filming STARTED six months ago.

How, pray tell, was it “due” to be out two and a half years before it ever started shooting?

  • ryanlohner-av says:

The real story no one in the media seems to want to comment on is that Warner Brothers clearly now considers Ezra Miller way too toxic to center a marketing campaign around even when he’s playing a major superhero character.

    • gargsy-av says:

Yeah, that’s why Ezra Miller WASN’T prominently featured in FanDome and DIDN’T have a long, rambling video introducing the teaser.

None of that happened at all, and the reason is because WB doesn’t want to market around him.

Very clever of WB for hiding that fact by putting him front and centre.

  • doubleudoubleudoubleudotpartycitydotpig-av says:

you know what, i have just about had it with these franchise “multiverses.” oh wow we can bring in an old actor to tickle the nostalgia centers of 40-50-year-olds! who gives a fuck, maybe you could try writing a good movie instead

  • deb03449a1-av says:

Ezra Miller is an awful Flash. DC goes above and beyond to make their movies so unappealing. If you told me 10 years ago, a comics super-reader, who reads hundreds of comics per month, that DC would be putting out major movies that I would have no interest in seeing, I would not believe you, and yet…
