In addition to working on his follow-up to The Haunting Of Hill House, Mike Flanagan has another Netflix horror series in the works: Midnight Mass. Via Deadline, the seven-episode series from Flanagan and Hill House’s Trevor Macy has officially set its cast, and—unsurprisingly—it’s a good’n. Hamish Linklater (who recently starred in Legion), Kate Siegel (Flanagan’s wife/frequent star), and Zach Gilford (MATT FUCKING SARACEN) will headline an ensemble that includes a few familiar faces from Flanagan’s previous works. Hill House stars Annabeth Gish, Henry Thomas, and Robert Longstreet (the last two also appeared in Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep) will appear in the series alongside Alex Essoe (Doctor Sleep, Starry Eyes), Michael Trucco, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Rahul Kohli, Kristen Lehman, Igby Rigney, and Annarah Shephard.

Flanagan will direct all seven episodes of Midnight Mass, which is set in an isolated community which begins to experience strange events—some miraculous, others ominous—upon the arrival of a mysterious young priest. The filmmaker is also working on The Haunting Of Bly Manor, his follow-up to Hill House which is based on Henry James’ The Turn Of The Screw and features several cast members from the previous season. Bly Manor will debut sometime this year, and while Netflix has yet to reveal a release date for Midnight Mass, it’s probably safe to assume we’ll see it sometime in 2021.

I’m looking forward to these, keep them coming! my guess is that Midnight Mass is the non-funny version of Hot Fuzz, which was entirely novel and owed no debt to any literary or televised precursor, so I choose to believe. Nah it probably isn’t but now that Salem’s Lot looks like it has died on the vine I would love to see Flanagan tackle a more “Jerusalem’s Lot” than ‘Salem’s Lot, one combining modern day small town with eldritch horror and Young Goodman Brown style shenanigans. I’d also like to see him do a Shadow Over Innsmouth adaptation actually set in New England (I also always wanted to play that story as an early Sierra style videogame).Funny how Doctor Sleep was only interesting when it went away from the book and the Shining’s book and back to the Shining movie, sorry Steve-O. What a clunker that was. Also, can we not include the slowly painfully dying children as like the only scary thing in the whole damn movie, more really creepy than scary.

MY guess is that Midnight Mass is not a cop movie.

no that was the horror movie where ben affleck was a celebrated director :Palso in New England, tho!  Why do I want to see Mike Flanagan do things in New England?  Was Haunting of Hill House even set there, I have no idea

I was hoping Grandma Saracen would shoot up the good guys with an AK hidden behind her petunias.

As a horror fan, I’m surprisingly lukewarm on all the various versions of Turn of the Screw (most recently The Turning). At this point it just seems like well-worn, fully explored territory. Hopefully Flanagan can do something new with the material.

Turning of the Screw is such a boring story. The original House of Haunted was great and the changes they made were great too. I hope the changes they make to Screw are great.

??? how did I not know that the Hill House dad was the Jack Torrance actor in Doctor Sleep? I just looked at a side-by-side and it was hard to see the resemblance even then.I’m excited about this cast, love Siegel and all the other Flanagan collaborators and Linklater can only serve to remind me of how much I miss Legion.

Let’s hope he doesn’t fuck up the ending this time
