Moana’s international trailer features playtime with a wave

Film Features Film

Well, this is probably the cutest thing you’ll watch all day. The first international trailer for Disney’s upcoming feature Moana plays more like a short—a lovely short with striking imagery that hits a bunch of emotional buttons. The baby Moana is toddling around the beach, collecting shells, when she gets a window into the ocean’s majesty thanks to a forming wave. Then the ocean’s swell takes on some anthropomorphic traits—this is a Disney movie, after all—and begins to play with her.

This look at the film strays a bit from the tone of the first U.S. teaser, which focused on the antics of the demigod Maui, voiced by The Rock. Here we get poignancy over goofiness. Either way, we’re excited for this one, which also features music from Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina, and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Moana arrives in theaters November 23.
