More proof that Rogue One originally ended differently for its characters

The Star Wars fanatics over at Making Star Wars have discovered some footage that, once again, hints at a different end for the ensemble cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story than the one we all saw in the theaters. (Spoilers follow.)

The footage—which is shown briefly in the ABC News behind-the-scenes look at the making of K-2SO—shows actor Alan Tudyk in full motion-capture suit seemingly being gunned down outside a bunker on Scarif during the film’s final scenes. Moreover, as Tudyk falls to the ground, you can see what appears to be Diego Luna as Cassian lying next to him.

Of course, in the film’s theatrical release, K-2SO never makes it out of the Imperial base alive, while Cassian dies much later, on a beach with Jyn Erso. This clip, along with most of the footage from the film’s trailers, is just another glimpse of the Rogue One ending that may have existed prior to its extensive reshoots. It remains to be seen whether this alternate ending will become fully realized in the director’s cut, or if we’ll have to wait for the inevitable fan edits that will undoubtedly depict all our favorite characters dying in countless, gruesome ways.
