MTV’s Dare To Live looks obnoxious, until you think of it as an elaborate booby trap intended to kill The Chainsmokers

Dare To Live (MTV, 11 p.m.): Do not Google the words “Rory Kramer” unless the results you’re looking for are a stress headache. A professional videographer who’s worked with an impressive roster of musicians including Kanye West and Justin Bieber (and has also pointed a camera at The Chainsmokers), Kramer is also a popular internet personality and self-proclaimed “professional life liver” who brands each new project “A Rory Kramer vision” and sells $60 hoodies emblazoned with the tagline “Run it!” on his personal website. He has overcome serious mental-health obstacles to become the patron saint of dudes jumping off shit in slow-motion; his YouTube page is what Jackass would’ve looked like if Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera came of age in the era of YouTube and GoPro.

The latest Rory Kramer vision combines the two most prominent elements in his repertoire—gently reckless shenanigans and Top 40 artists—to… actually, now that we’re starting to type it out, we’ve realized we’re selling Rory Kramer short. This dude is definitely an evil genius, but less in a “frustratingly lucrative viral video” way, and more in a “legitimately megalomaniacal horror-movie villain” way. Because Dare To Live, in which Rory Kramer makes popular musicians face their greatest fears, is clearly a mechanism by which Rory Kramer either intimidates or murders his way into being the last celebrity on the internet. He is Jigsaw with scraggly hair and a bike ramp on the end of his dock, and he is going to make these people value their lives, even if it means a dead Chainsmoker or two. The premiere episode features hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd; please be vigilant and keep the host and crew of Dare To Live away from Kanye West.
