NBC is canceling this week’s episodes of Late Night With Seth Meyers after Meyers tested positive for COVID-19.

The host made the announcement on Twitter, writing, “The bad news is, I tested positive for COVID (thanks, 2022!) the good news is, I feel fine (thanks vaccines and booster!) We are canceling the rest of the shows this week, so tune in next Monday to see what cool location we will try and pass off as a studio!!!”

A fan requested that Mike Scollins, who’s one of the writers on the show and has appeared on camera various times, to fill in as host. Scollins replied with a picture of himself sitting at Meyers’ desk, writing, “He can’t say no if I don’t ask!” But Scollins and his infamous tank top unfortunately won’t get to host this week.

The announcement of the week-long break comes a day after Late Night returned from its holiday hiatus. And, sadly, Meyers isn’t the only NBC host to get COVID recently. In an Instagram post featuring himself enclosed in a small 30 Rock office, Jimmy Fallon shared that he tested positive on the first day of The Tonight Show’s holiday hiatus, but has since recovered.

He wrote:

Hey guys, on the first day of our holiday break I tested positive for Covid. I was vaccinated and boostered which made me lucky enough to only have mild symptoms. Thank you to the doctors and nurses who work so hard around the clock to get everyone vaxxed. Thank you to NBC for taking the testing protocols so seriously and doing a great job—and also thanks for putting me in the “What ‘chu talkin’ about Willis?” isolation room when they told me the news.

The Tonight Show also returned on January 3, with an episode featuring guests Anthony Anderson and Carly Pearce.

Can it cancel The Tonight Show after testing positive for Fallon?

Let it not be said that COVID doesn’t have its upsides!I’m totally kidding of course. Or am I?

Just to be safe, they should cancel the show permanently.

I got to admit, I like The Sea Captain

I honestly grew to like the Covid period of Seth Meyers, I won’t say that his content was above and beyond his contemporaries, but he seemed to go for less of the eye rollingly awful bits that a lot of the Late Show hosts did from home.

It was a glorious time of audience-free hilarity. We got to know the writers and Wally, the reactions were genuine, and even the attic provided its own self-contained jocularity. Seth plays it low key; though a few of the comedy bits didn’t land like the hot take segment.  Cringeworthy. Also, no waiting for an audience to cool after a laughter. I am thrilled though that the Jackals still get their Corrections web-only and without a crowd.

Of the late night shows I caught a glimpse of, I thought John Oliver and his crew did the best job, Bil Maher really tanked.

That’s because Bill Maher has a desperate, pathological relationship with his audience. When he filled it with sycophants from his staff, it got even worse because then it was two -way.

Stay safe. Get better. We love you.
… is what I’d say if he read AV Club comments.

It feels like Amber Ruffin or Jenny Hagel would be the obvious fill in hosts.

Got my booster shot yesterday. I am officially a medical miracle with the Triple Crown of Vaccination Mix Pack:1st shot April 30th – AstraZenica2nd shot July 12th- Pfizer3rd shot: January 3rd – Moderna I should probably donate my blood to science in 2 weeks or something to check it out. Person I got the shot from said it was rare but they have seen the 3 different vax shots. Then we chatted about Spider-Man (I was lamenting that I wanted to see No Way Home again in 2 weeks after my booster kicked in but theatres close in Ontario in a few hours but it’ll be on video by, hopefully, mid-February {if sony sticks to the 45 day window, I’m hoping Valentines’ Day, definitely by March for sure}, she said she wanted to watch the other Tom Holland Spidey movies first and I told her to watch every movie in the entire Spider-Man series before seeing)

    But is Amber Ruffin ok?
    IS AMBER RUFFIN OK?!?!

I’ve become convinced that we will all get Covid this time around. Thankfully most of us are vaccinated and probably will be fine. Still wearing my mask everywhere though.

you now, probably. the vax and boost will make it a mild irritiation for those who got the shot, but likely this will affect everyone. the numbers are of a much higher scale than other varients. ill admit, when i got my breakthrough last year, i was vaxed, just with the j&j and..it really was not bad. reiterating, thats because i was vaxxed, those who are not need to rectify that or consequences may be significant, but im expecting to get it again with the new one. i live in a red area of a purple state, i am frequently the only person in the entire grocery store wearing a mask when i shop outside of the workers, and while i have been curtailing going out, you dont seem to need much exposure, so im kind of resigned to it. this time i have the boost too, so not too worried for me.

    • duke-of-kent-av says:

I’ve heard this sentiment about the latest variant, but I also heard it when Delta was swirling around… and I heard it over a year ago with Original Recipe, so it’s tough to know what’s real and what’s hyperbole. It doesn’t sound too far-fetched when we’re talking about a highly contagious airborne virus, though. And if what I’m reading is true: that it’s no more dangerous to the vaccinated than a cold or flu, then I think I’m ok with that. I’m still a little uneasy in large crowds or around people I don’t know are vaccinated, but that’s pretty much been my M.O. most flu seasons. When I was a little kid, some parents would host “Chicken Pox Parties” in which they would gather a bunch of their kids together when one of them came down with the Chicken Pox with the intent of getting them all infected. This sounds a little barbaric in retrospect, but the reasoning was that the disease was less severe when you get it when you’re young, so it’s better to just get it over with. It’s one big Covid Party out there right now for the unvaccinated with these more contagious variants. They’ll get their antibodies the hard way and hopefully stop overwhelming the medical system with preventable infections soon.

There were 5 of us in the office last week and I’m the only one who didn’t catch it from whoever was spreading it. My husband had it but I’ve yet to. This summer I shared a weed pen at a family party with someone who tested positive a couple days later. I’m starting to feel like Brad Pitt at the end of World War Z.
