We can’t imagine it’s easy being a television executive. The pressure! The expectations! The endless lunches, often coming in the aftermath of some absolutely brutal endless breakfasts and brunches! Sometimes, we imagine, you need a gimme. To kick your feet up, let your brain have a rest, and just issue a simple, “Fuck it. Let’s just order some more NCIS.”

And so Paramount+ has today, announcing that it’s green-lit a new spin-off of its insanely popular, insanely long-running, insanely lucrative franchise of naval crime-based water cop shows. And not just any spin-off: This is a reunion spin-off, bringing back Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly to play fan-favorites Ziva and Tony, as they wander around Europe, hoping to dodge allegations of unpleasant workplace conduct that have dogged Weatherly for years after his long stint on Bull.

Sorry, no, we misread that last bit: Per Deadline, they’ll actually be dodging standard NCIS bad guys, as the two characters—whose long-time romantic association on NCIS includes a daughter, a faked death, and an enormous amount of complicated mistrust—end up on the run after Tony’s security company is attacked by unknown assailants

For his part, Weatherly left the mothership show in its 13th season—although he did pop up in the midst of its most recent season, presumably to chum up the the spin-off sharks. De Pablo left in season 11; as alluded to above, you can apparently only get so “killed off” in the world of NCIS, though, and she ultimately came back for “one last mission” in 2020. The pair will both executive produce the new series—which will be the sixth NCIS spin-off, once the recently announced prequel NCIS: Origins launches some time later this year—along with The Magicians’ John McNamara, who will serve as showrunner for the series.
