As Jurassic World: Dominion’s various affronts against Chris Pratt’s God continue to wreak havoc on the beleaguered production—delayed to 2022 and plagued by COVID-19—the franchise is waving a road flare over on Netflix, hoping you’ll be distracted by the announcement that a second season of its Camp Cretaceous series will return with a new season sooner than anyone expected. Ah, the joys of animation in a global pandemic!

Dreamworks Animation announced this morning that a second season of the spin-off is “coming soon,” which implies that 2021, which is as close to a release date as we have yet, is also “coming soon.” The first season unfolded during the events of Jurassic World, just on a different area of the island filled with teens. In our review, we praised the series for how it “syncs up perfectly with its live-action cousin, not just in the details of its plot but how that plot’s momentum is sped up by pure, abject stupidity, far exceeding mere man-tampers-with-nature hubris.” A ringing endorsement, that.

“Season 2 will find the stranded campers struggling to survive on Isla Nublar as the series charges forward beyond the events of the Jurassic World film,” teases a press release. Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Frank Marshall remain the executive producers on the series.

The cool thing with these 3D animations is that you can recycle the same grand total of three facial expressions (awkward grin, awkward grin and awkward grin) in a multitude of contexts.

I wonder if they were working on the first two seasons from the start. One of the toy sets and features dinosaurs that weren’t even in the first season.I watched the first season with my 5 year old and she loved it. I thought it was cute and definitely would have loved to have a Jurassic Park show when I was growing up.

The best part of the show was how it actually made good use of the idea that people had started to get bored with dinosaurs, with one of the kids being an influencer who has serious trouble keeping her fans interested in them. And now that’s over with the dinosaurs being loose, so I don’t know what’s left for it to do.

As interesting an idea as that is, it’s also a wildly unbelievable one that I’ve never been able to buy into. People haven’t gotten bored with going to regular zoos. They expect me to believe that in this, the most exclusive zoo in the world, with creatures that haven’t walked the earth in 95 million years. And it’s only been open what, since 1993 at the earliest (if we discount the two sequels)? 2001 at the latest if they still count. Not including the clean up from the earlier rampage, and setting up the facilities for a brand new park.So people became “bored” with dinosaurs somewhere between 15 and 22 years when they’re only available in one park in the entire world. Right.

Influencer girl her obsessed with her phone was probably my least favorite one. It makes sense for modern times, but as a character, she was incredibly grating to spend time with. The kids to me (5 of the 6 of them don’t even care about dinosaurs) are the part of the show that need the most work, imo. The dinosaurs themselves are well done, tho

Influencer girl was annoying, but spoilerthe other girl being a spy was the worst part for me. Like seriously one of these tweens is a corporate spy? There’s not an easier way for this other company to scrape some dino dna? But I liked it overall! I wish they’d killed one of the kids for stakes. I was so happy when the one kid appeared to die but of course he’s fine.

Yes! When it looked like they killed Scaredy-Cat I was about to applaud the show for having some guts and pulling the trigger! His being ok figures, but I feel like we got a glimpse of a bolder show in here somewhere.

Good. This was more enjoyable than both Jurassic World movies.
