Netflix's Marc Maron: End Times Fun trailer will make you laugh through the end of the world

Aux Features TV

If you’re a regular listener of WTF, you’ve probably been anticipating this moment for months: The official trailer for Marc Maron’s Netflix stand-up special, Marc Maron: End Times Fun. Maron has spent a fair amount of time during the pre-interview chatter on WTF discussing his stand-up tour and filming the special, which features a wealth of material the comedian and podcast host has already begun to ditch in favor of newer jokes; like most comedians, the special serves as a farewell or cleansing of sorts. For those who haven’t attended one of the shows on his latest tour, it’s all new, and based on this trailer, it’s the sort of contemplative-yet-reflexive, incisive, and—yes—cynical humor we’ve come to expect from Maron.

End Times Fun, which arrives on March 1 , features Maron riffing on the imminent end of the world. “All of us, in our hearts, really know that we did everything we could,” he says. “We brought our own bags to the supermarket… Yeah, that’s about it.” We’re living through a time that seems pretty damn hopeless, and Maron might not be able to offer us much in the way of solutions, but he’s definitely going to make sure we laugh our asses off through this damned apocalypse. Here’s Netflix’s official description of the special:

The lizard portal is open, and the sky is on fire. Marc’s back to talk about the end of the world as we know it, in his new stand-up special ‘End Times Fun’, streaming March 10th, only on Netflix.

My only regular exposure to Maron is GLOW and so I’m a little surprised to see him not yelling dyspeptically. Here it’s more of a quiet, calm dyspepsia.

It’s not the end of the world. I mean, sure, everything only gets worse from here, but it’s not the end.
    [pause]And there’s still sex![longer pause]And pizza!

Finally, something that doesn’t start with 10-plus minutes of him talking about his life.

Take your well earned star, you bastard. I’m in the camp that’d like to know a little less of his personal life.

Marc’s existential spirals in the first 10 minutes of every episode are pretty much the only reason I’m there.

I’m talking about the VERY end, when he died. THAT was very sudden!  — Irwin M. Fletcher

I’m old enough to remember when Marc Maron was a fresh-faced young man appearing on Comics Come Home with Denis Leary.

Gotta say, prefer grizzled old-man Maron infinitely more.

That’s probably because he’s not all spun out on cocaine.

I mostly remember him from Short Attention Span Theater and his couch sessions with Dr. Katz. But yes, i do think he is much better now

Oh, man. Taking me back. Yes, young, clean-shaven Maron with long hair and wearing those ridiculous faux-cowboy button-up shirts with giant roses on them and shit like that.
The old Dr. Katz stuff was brilliant. Miss that show and I miss Comedy Central.
Fan of both young and old, grizzled Maron stuff.

I first heard Marc Maron years ago on a very early ep of WTF. I didn’t get it at all , knew nothing about LA alternative comedy. His “guest” was a Doctor specialising in Salvia therapy . The “Doctor” demonstrated the use of salvia to Marc and then freaked the fuck out. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Took me way too long to realise it was joke.

This is new all new to me. I’m a charter member of the “fast forward to the interview” club.
