New Allegiant trailer has less Jeff Daniels, more shadowy nudes

Last time we checked in on The Divergent Series: Allegiant, the penultimate chapter in Lionsgate’s ongoing effort to get more Hunger Games-flavored blood from the YA-dystopian stone, a new trailer was briefly teasing the mysteries of what lay beyond Chicago’s post-apocalyptic protective walls: namely, some candy-colored blasted wastelands, and a whole lot of enigmatic Jeff Daniels.

But now, having apparently decided teens desire more from their blockbusters than the Dumb & Dumber guy doing his best Matrix: Reloaded imitation, the studio has released a new trailer giving the people what they want: naked 20-year-olds, wet and in silhouette. To be fair, there’s still a little Jeff Daniels on display, but way more of Shailene Woodley and Theo James, accompanied by a choir of angels that’s apparently really into watching these kids unzip.

Of course, this is the (first part of) the final installment of a teen-focused action thriller, so all is not what it seems in the clothes-burning utopia our heroes find themselves in. “This place is not what we thought it was,” James’ Four tells series hero Tris, who greets his words with—wait, you’re not even listening, are you? You just scrolled back up and jumped the video back to the naked bits. Well, that’s great. Do that. We’ll be over here, hanging out with Jeff Daniels.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant comes out March 18.
