Here's an unexpected treat: A recently unearthed performance by Elliott Smith for University Of Maryland radio station WMUC recorded in 1997 includes a previously unreleased song, "Misery Let Me Down." Apparently the session was transferred to MiniDisc and added to the station's library, but the disc soon went missing. It was finally rediscovered by a former DJ earlier this year, and the version of "2:45 A.M." from the performance was played on the station last month. Eventually the recording caught the attention of Smith's online fan group SweetAdeline.com, which noticed "Misery Let Me Down" as part of the track list. It's not exactly a lost classic, but it's a pretty nice tune—and awfully special, consider the sad lack of new Elliott Smith songs to discover. Check it our here. [via the Washington Post]
