Despite the threat of cancellation that had been looming, New Girl was renewed over the weekend. Now, Deadline reports that the eight-episode final run will include a three-year time jump that will “feature major milestones for all main characters over the period of one year, including a big one in the series finale.” One can only assume a wedding for Nick and Jess, who got back together at the end of the sixth season, is in the cards. Also according to Deadline, Fox executives were just about ready to say goodbye to New Girl, but their minds changed when creator Liz Meriwether presented her concept for the farewell.
