Nicki Minaj detained by authorities in Netherlands, says it was “sabotage”

Nicki Minaj was detained in Amsterdam earlier today, per reports from citizen journalist, uh, Nicki Minaj—who pretty exhaustively documented her encounters with Dutch police on social media, while asserting that the country’s authorities had been paid to “sabotage” her current European tour “b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me.”

In a series of videos, Minaj—who ultimately made it to her next show, in Manchester in the U.K.—was detained by Dutch cops for alleged possession of marijuana, which maintains slightly tricky legal status in the Netherlands despite the country’s reputation as a destination spot for weed tourists. For what it’s worth, Minaj says the pot wasn’t hers, but belonged to members of her security team—but also repeatedly expressed her disinterest in cooperating with Dutch authorities, albeit in a calm and extremely polite fashion. Per Variety, Minaj was at least briefly actually detained (placed in a vehicle holding cell, which will now have a hell of a story to tell all its vehicle holding cell friends) before ultimately being released.

Minaj repeatedly stated on her socials that she believed that efforts were being made to somehow sabotage her current tour, writing that, “They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show, They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.” For what it’s worth, all of the authorities in the videos seem apologetic and a little embarrassed to be doing what they’re doing—possibly because they know they’re being broadcast to 230 million people—even as Minaj notes that at least one of the pilots she talked to tried to get her posts about the matter taken off of social media.
