It’s happening: Nicolas Cage is Spider-Man in Amazon’s Noir

What a time to be Nicolas Cage, huh? He’s on a mission to play some, let’s call them “unforgettable” roles. The actor’s upcoming slate already includes horror films like Longlegs, in which he’s a serial killer, and The Carpenter’s Son about Jesus Christ’s childhood. Then there’s The Surfer, premiering at Cannes Film Festival later this month. And that’s not all.
Cage is now set to bring a version of Spider-Man to life in an MGM+ series that’s been in development for almost a year. (Looks like he’s committed to that pivot from movies to TV shows. Good for him!). Amazon Prime Video confirmed the news ahead of upfronts on May 14. He’s portraying the beloved web-slinging hero in Noir, a 1930s set drama, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The show will be executive-produced by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who made Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Cage, of course, voiced Spider-Noir in the first film, making him the perfect choice for a live-action spin-off.
Noir will follow Peter Parker, a down-on-his-luck private investigator forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s only superhero. His version of Peter is from a monochromatic universe, so we’ll see if the series is entirely in black and white as well. In the comics, Spider-Noir is different from the rest because he isn’t opposed to using brute force or compromising his morals. He’s a broodier, gritter version of the superhero we know and love.
There is no other casting info yet, but we’re placing bets on which voice actors from the Spider-Verse films might travel through time to make an appearance. (Jake Johnson as a live-action Spider-Man, please!).
Meanwhile, Prime Video is building out its own Marvel universe—as if The Boys and Gen V weren’t enough. Noir is the second show in its lineup, joining Silk, produced by The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang. That one’s about Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman who becomes a hero after getting bit by a radioactive spider. Both Noir and Silk will first premiere on Amazon-owned MGM+ before arriving on Prime Video. (Who’s going to tell them most people will just wait for it to stream before subscribing to another cable network?)
There’s no actual release date yet, but Cage is ready to beat all of your other favorites as a live-action Spider-Man.
