During a recent appearance on on SiriusXM’s In Depth With Larry Flick to promote her addictive new Showtime series On Becoming A God In Central Florida, Kirsten Dunst stated that despite being in the entertainment industry for the vast majority of her life, “I always feel like nobody—I don’t know, maybe they just think I’m the girl from Bring It On.” Granted, that is a great movie. But as CNN reports, Dunst pointed out that praise for many of her projects has come after the fact” “Well, remember when Marie Antoinette—y’all panned it? And now you all love [it] … Remember Drop Dead Gorgeous? Panned. Now you all love it. … I feel a lot of things I do people like later … I’ve never been recognized in my industry.”

Hopefully, a new accolade will help Dunst feel more recognized: She finally received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in a ceremony on Thursday. And she’s right, that does seem way overdue—how in the hell is Donald Trump on the Walk Of Fame before Dunst, star of The Virgin Suicides, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, and Melancholia? Nevertheless, Dunst was gracious at her Walk of Fame ceremony, following a very sweet introduction by her partner and former Fargo co-star Jesse Plemons:

Also in attendance were Dunst’s frequent director Sofia Coppola (who called Dunst “my most trusted collaborator”) and Plemons and Dunst’s adorable 15-month-old son Ennis, making his first public appearance. In her own speech, Dunst remembered visiting Hollywood as a child: “We would drive around these streets, and I always thought the stars were dedicated to the legends of the past… I never thought that someday I would even be close to being part of that.”

Then just when we couldn’t love her any more, Dunst goes ahead and quotes The Comebacks Valerie Cherish on her Instagram post:

    Finally!

I think she’s a fantastic actor and deserves a lot more recognition for her talent than she getsBUTYou can buy a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  It means exactly dick (ok, it means that you or someone who likes you has $30,000 to spare so not exactly dick but yeah)

    • tarvolt-av says:

Really? I can buy one too? I would have to sell my liver, but still…

    • tobias-lehigh-nagy-av says:

Well…you at least have to be famous enough for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to have heard of you before they would even consider your application.

    • phartus-av says:

Deserve, maybe, but if I had all those millions of dollars I couldn’t possibly give less of a shit about winning trophies. If I was a millionaire, I would basically not have feelings any more at all. It would be great.

    • erasmus11-av says:

Yeah this, people think that its merit based but it’s really
not. You have to have made a “material
contribution to radio, tv, film, music, or theatre”, pay $40k, and agree to
show up at the ceremony. Most stars don’t
pay the $40k themselves, usually they have a fan club that raises the money for
them, but they still have to agree to be nominated and to show up at the ceremony
if they’re selected. Some big stars
have publicly commented that they have no interest – Julia Roberts, for
example. In theory the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce can decline –
they famously declined to approve Kim Karadasian’s application – but in
practice if you’re a celebrity that people have heard of and want a star you
can probably get one. This is why
reality TV stars like Trump and Ryan Seacrest have stars but someone like
      Dustin Hoffman doesn’t.

Notice people often get stars on the Walk of Fame when they have a new project and are doing a round of PR for it. I feel like studios or channels in this case may pay for it too.

        • laurenceq-av says:

Exactly. Stars don’t pay for this out of their own pocket, the studios do as part of a marketing blitz.I mean, I’m sure SOME of them have…but that’s pretty fucking sad.

      • pocrow-av says:

Even worse is the Palm Springs Walk of Fame which has so, so many people whose big contribution to society is the ability to write a large check.

  • bigt90-av says:

Bout time. Sucks she got robbed of her very rightful Emmy win for Fargo by Gaga, for Gaga’s crappy role in several nearly soft-core sex scenes on American Horror Story. That was lame.

    • antsnmyeyes-av says:

Lady Gaga wasn’t even nominated for an Emmy for AHS.Dunst lost to Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark.

      • bigt90-av says:

I guess it was the Golben Globe, I got them mixed up, my bad.

        • antsnmyeyes-av says:

No worries, the Emmys got it right by not nominating her. She was great in A Star is Born, but as the Countess she was very wooden.I was rooting for Dunst in Fargo until I watched ACS. Paulson, I think, deserved it. Any other year and Dunst would’ve had it on lock.

          • bigt90-av says:

Yeah Gaga murdered in Star is Born, that was well, well deserved. Agreed on Paulson too, but she’s always great IMO, even in the super cheesey AHS. I just really, really liked Dunst in Fargo, she was crazy in that, and crazy good.

          • gerky-av says:

Everyone says she was wooden, but that was 100% a choice she made for the modern Countess. When she showed her pre-Countess persona in the past (the ‘country mouse’), she was way looser and more natural. Even in the modern day, when she thought she’d been reunited with her sire, she was far closer to her flashback persona than the Countess we saw in the first few episodes.

          • antsnmyeyes-av says:

She is a good actress, but having the character you’re playing be “wooden” 90% of the time is probably a bad acting choice.I think she was aiming for regal, but it just didn’t happen and her character wasn’t written as dynamic enough to give her much else to work with.

          • gerky-av says:

I think she more aiming for “closed off” because of everything that happened to her but I can see why people don’t like it.

    • gerky-av says:

Gaga was really pretty great on AHS. She showed great range (compare her present day character to her past appearances), and commanded the role with a collected icyness that reminded me of Gillian Anderson. I didn’t expect much at all, but she blew me away.

Do people really love Marie Antoinette now? When exactly did this happen? I like Dunst a lot, but that movie is mediocre.

  • westerosironswanson-av says:

Little-remembered fact: she was one of the last guest-stars on Star Trek: The Next Generation. She was the little blond-haired alien girl from that race of telepaths that caused Lwaxanna to flip out when she fell in the water in the arboretum, in what is both one of the few good episodes of Season 7, and something I swear I did not cut and paste from the Season 8 TNG Plot Tumblr.See:The little girl whose face is obscured by the text? That’s a very young Kirsten Dunst, in one of her first acting roles.

    • laurenceq-av says:

No, I get that they were trying with something with “Dark Page”, but it’s not a very good episode. A noble miss. But, considering what a dumpster fire most of Season 7 of TNG is, i guess it could have been worse.

  • ijohng00-av says:

Bravo. Legend. The beguiled was my fave film the other year

    • weallknowthisisnothing-av says:

Oh, good call back. It’s been forgotten but that was a delightfully bizarre movie. And she was excellent in it.

  • lbsammills51-av says:

The Hollywood Walk of Fame selection process is weird and self-aggrandizing, but does it really need to change? It’s not a museum dedicated to the film industry or arts in general; this isn’t like a Hall of Fame either(and given how pompously sports fans and writers treat their HoFers as something between knighthood and sainthood, maybe it’s for the better it’s not treated that way). I’m all for under-recognized talents being promoted and celebrated (Kirsten doesn’t even have an Oscar nom yet, and her only Globe nom for her film work is still Interview with the Vampire), but I’m more concerned with awards bodies and nomination processes being reconstituted and reformed. If someone wants to pay up so Kirsten or some other celebrity can show up and have some nice things said about them, fine by me.

  • otm-shank-av says:

    Don’t forget Jumanji.

  • ceallach66-av says:

This may sound like a backhanded compliment, but she was amazingly believable being stoned in Eternal Sunshine.

  • renoasfukrick-av says:

She rules! Drop Dean Gorgeous is one of my top 10 films. I fucking love it! I quote it all of the time and no one ever gets the references, except my wife. From what I understand, the DVD is worth some bucks on the eBay. I wouldn’t sell my copy for anything!

    • brontosaurian-av says:

Dick is one of my all time favorite movies it’s such a good mixture of stupid and smart with two teen girls taking down Nixon. It’s kinda extra fun to rewatch nowadays because well you know… Plus Michelle Williams, Teri Garr and Dan Hedaya.

      • renoasfukrick-av says:

I’ve never seen it, but I’ve heard it’s a great movie. I’ll have to find it and watch it over my long deserved vacation. I’ve always thought Kirsten Dunst never got the recognition she deserved.

      • madamederosemonde-av says:

Dick is a very enjoyable movie. Kirsten Dunst has that inner quality that just makes you want to root for her.

    • madamederosemonde-av says:

I love love love Drop Dead Gorgeous, it’s a riot, and what a cast! It’s brilliant.

      • inyourfaceelizabeth-av says:

I just rewatched it this past Sunday.  I just love the heck out of this movie.

      • pearlnyx-av says:

There’s a scene in the second episode of her new show On Becoming a God in Central Florida that would’ve fit right in DDG.

    • pearlnyx-av says:

I love that movie. My sister and I rented it way back when (I also rented Drowning Mona at the same time — another classic). We watched it, laughed our asses off, and then rewatched it right away. Every time I see it, I catch something else going on (same with Drowning Mona).

  • coastermonkey61-av says:

Of all the great moments in ‘Eternal Sunshine’ (and there are many moments), her reciting the poem that gives the movie its name is at the top for me.

  • firedragon400-av says:

All these films listed that Dunst has starred in, and none of them I’ve seen. :PJumanji, Small Soldiers, and the Raimi Spider-Man films. That’s it of Dunst’s resume that I’ve seen.

  • even-the-scary-ones-av says:

Personally, I choose to believe this is all thanks to her role in the Outer Limits episode “Music of the Spheres.”

  • jcn-txct-av says:

Good for Kirsten! She could have been just a child star but she has matured into a really good actress so it probably wasn’t a priority. On the other hand Trump was so desperate to be famous/celebrity that he probably had someone counting down the days for his eligibility. Since 2016, it’s been reported that his star has been vandalized 6 times eventually being removed for that as well as not “sharing the same values as of West Hollywood”.

  • pocrow-av says:

how in the hell is Donald Trump on the Walk Of Fame before Dunst

Because stars purchase their own spots on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or, in most cases, it’s built into the marketing budget for an upcoming release.

  • kaajsaslkdjfakdsaslkslkjdalkjsd-av says:

You dumb fucks do realize that these coveted walk of fame stars are bought and paid for by the recipients, right? It’s an honor any dip shit that had a minute of screen time can buy. Donald Fucking Trump has one.I’m sure that won’t matter to a bunch of celebrity-worshipping troglodytes though.

  • kevyb-av says:

Getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is newsworthy? Considering anyone can be nominated but the nomination MUST include an acceptance letter from the nominee, this “honor” is actually just actors playing the self-promotion game. Ryan Reynolds recently got one! He’s done like two decent things and he gets a star?To prove my assessment, also REQUIRED are $40K from the selected celebrity and a promise to attend the ceremony. All of which couldn’t be done if it was actually based on merit. Julia Roberts famously said no to all this so she has no star. Yet David Spade has one!The only thing that surprises me is why Kirsten Dunst felt she needed a star. She seemed above this garbage. Guess not.

  • chitide-av says:

Hopefully one day I can be ignored like her. 82 listed credits on IMDB and piles of Spider-Man money to roll around on sounds like a good way to live.
