We’re all talking about the Snyder Cut but Zack Snyder has another big project coming out this year: Army Of The Dead. The movie’s heading to Netflix on May 21 and now we’ve got the teaser for it.

In the clip, zombies have taken over Vegas and it’s a gruesome scene. Bloody, zombified Elvises are stomping around the Las Vegas Strip. A bachelorette party pounces on a jackpot winner as showgirls attempt to flee. There are explosions, burning cars, and everything you’d expect in a Snyder film. We also get to see a group of not-yet-zombified people finding a vault full of cash.

It’s a teaser, so if you know nothing about the plot, you might be thinking “What the fuck?” Well, here’s the wild synopsis Snyder shared:

“The movie takes place in Las Vegas. A zombie plague hits Vegas, and they’re able to contain the virus to the city – they build a wall out of shipping containers. And then the city falls. And six years later, one of the casino owners hires this group of zombie soldiers to go get his money that he left in a safe in the casino.”

You know, just your normal heist movie. Dave Bautista, Tig Notaro (who replaced Chris D’Elia), and Ella Purnell star in it. But we’ll have to see which mercenaries survive.

Because Netflix knows Snyder’s in high demand right now, the streaming site is also working on a prequel and an animated spin-off series. According to Deadline, the series, titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, “chronicles the origin story of Scott (Dave Bautista) and his rescue crew during the initial fall of Vegas as they confront the mysterious source of the zombie outbreak.” Snyder is set to direct two episodes of the series, and Jay Oliva (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns) will be the showrunner.

Not so Fun Fact: The original script for this movie had rape zombies in it (https://screenrant.com/zack-snyder-army-dead-script-changes/)…

    • rarely-sober-insomniac-av says:

It is a fuck of a thing to read an article describing zombies raping living women as merely “try-hard” and “edgy” as opposed to ludicrously offensive and obscene.
I know that horror fans, especially gore horror fans, think of themselves as unshockable but imagine what that fucking scene would look like and then remind yourself that ZACK SNYDER, he of the delicate touch and naunced take on complex issues, would have been directing said zombie rapist scenes.I’m sure it would have been tasteful.

      • brontosaurian-av says:

But what if it’s set to Hallelujah and in slo-mo?

      • chris-finch-av says:

I mean, go to any comedy open mic and you’ll hear jokes that would be ludicrously offensive and obscene but come across as try-hard and edgy. I think it’s a solid insult; “this would be offensive if it didn’t feel like you were trying so hard to offend me.”

I remember Humanoids from the Deep back in the early 80’s, the humanoids were invading the surface to mate with human women. The movie ended with a girl giving birth to a humanoid.

        • xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-av says:

How about “Demon Seed”, man. Gross. And I’m not just talking about the title, which I didn’t fully realize the grossness of until I typed it just now.

      • mdiller64-av says:

Seriously, the article is all like: “Can we agree that the idea of zombie rapist impregnation is a bit much?” when I’m pretty sure the correct response is: “Fuck the original director, screenwriter, and anyone else who said ‘yes’ to that idea.”

    • perlafas-av says:

Aha so that’s what the next #releasethesnydercut will all be about ?

      • galvatronguy-av says:

For once a particular grotesquerie can’t be blamed on Snyder, as this was attached to a different director originally

        • lexaprofessional-av says:

Yeah, look, I’m not a huge Snyder fan or anything, but let’s be fair: the article basically says the original director made claims about his version of the movie as it stood (13 years ago!!); whenever Snyder took over the project he clearly accurately surmised it was a terrible idea and axed it.

An ACTUAL fun fact I just learned from looking into this, apparently during production he shitcanned Chis D’Elia (for obvious reasons), and Snyder’s apparently pulled a Ridley Scott/Chris Plummer-job on it replacing him with Tig Notaro, which is an inspired choice imo. Given her involvement, I’m also gonna err on the side of it passing muster w/r/t taste and maybe bein fun…

          • laserface1242-av says:

He was still a producer on the project at the time so it’s not like Snyder wasn’t involved in the previous director’s version of the movie. Plus there’s the fact that a large chunk of his movies either depict or infer sexual violence towards women. Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, and Sucker Punch all have it. Plus there’s his infamous metaphor of Batman being “Raped in prison” to descibe how dark he wanted Watchmen to be.

some men get really good at being 15 year old boys for their whole lives. amazing how lucrative it can be!

    • presidentzod-av says:

“Revenge of the Necro-defiled Dead” !!

    • praxinoscope-av says:

Well, Roger Corman did an “Alien” ripoff where the monster rape/kills a woman and the actress was instructed to writhe in orgasmic pleasure during the scene. I have a high tolerance for schlocky B movies but that was where I walked out.

    • hamologist-av says:

And here I was saying, “you know what, his” Dawn of the Dead” remake wasn’t terrible, maybe this’ll be a return to a mild degree of form.”Nope, just Zack Snyder still thinking it’s a good idea to even entertain the possibility of rape zombies.

      • laserface1242-av says:

I feel his Dawn of the Dead basically popularized the trend of dehumanizing the zombie and viewing them less as a representation of ourselves and more a mindless hoard that can only be stopped by abandoning altruism and reveling in inflicting violence on people

        • hamologist-av says:

Yeah, that’s a fair assessment, and I wonder if it has something also to do with America at the time going all-in on the “fuck you, I got mine, eat my bombs, scary brown people” attitude — well, more than usual, anyway. It’s one hell of a thing to be so dense that you misunderstand the not very complex allegory of zombies, but Zack Snyder sure rose to that occasion. I think the deepest philosophical question posed by that movie is “what if Nü-Metal was instead lounge music?“

        • mifrochi-av says:

I don’t even know that his Dawn of the Dead has a perspective beyond “headshot!” It’s almost impressively devoid of subtext.

      • oh-thepossibilities-av says:

Did you read the article? It was the original director who talked about having that aspect… 13 years ago. Snyder took it OUT.

      • moggett-av says:

Didn’t his Dawn of the Dead movie have a sort of fake out where it looks like a woman is being raped but it’s actually zombies attacking her?  Maybe I’m confusing my zombie schlock…

        • laserface1242-av says:

Oh yeah there was a rape fakeout. Snyder sure likes to depict or infer sexual violence towards women in his movies.

    • nightriderkyle-av says:

Hey! Stay off of Cronenberg’s turf Snyder!

  • brontosaurian-av says:

    Vaseline on the lens filter?

  • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

    release the d’elia cut!*no i’m just kidding please don’t.

  • modusoperandi0-av says:

My favorite part is when they finally get inside the casino and all the zombies ignore them and just stand there, feeding the slot machines. The Zombie Paul Anka cameo is pretty good, too.

  • cinecraf-av says:

Yeah this one will turn Snyder’s career around…

  • presidentzod-av says:

    Meh. I’m holding out. #ReleaseTheWhedonCut

  • refinedbean-av says:

Is this…not the same universe as Dawn of the Dead? Because pretty sure that was a full-blown apocalypse and fiat money became, you know…useless.

    • gargsy-av says:

Where in the movie is that explained?

    • laserface1242-av says:

Yeah it’s a massive plot hole: Money only has value because the government says it does. A zombie apocalypse means no stable government. And not stable government means that money is worthless. And if money is worthless, why go to all the trouble to sneak into a zombie-infested casino to steal it?

      • chris-finch-av says:

I saw a description elsewhere that clarifies the zombies are relegated to vegas, and the protagonists are trying to sneak in before it’s bombed to oblivion.

    • tmicks-av says:

I don’t think so, but I would love to see a straight up sequel to the 2004 Dawn of the Dead with the surviving characters. Yeah, I saw the after credits scene, but I can’t remember if we saw anyone actually die.

    • nextchamp-av says:

The original Dawn of the Dead played it off perfectly when it comes to money. The heroes are in a bank/loan office and come across thousands of dollars. One guy gives the other a look and says “You never know…” and take the money.

  • robert-denby-av says:

This movie was actually a lot of fun when it was a video game called Dead Rising 2.

  • 10cities10years-av says:

You’ve got Tig Notaro in your film and you don’t feature her prominently in your teaser trailer? What are these knuckleheads at Netflix thinking?

    • gargsy-av says:

Probably that 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999% of people watching the trailer will have no clue who Tig is, or who the person she replaced is.

  • markagrudzinski-av says:

Apparently no one informed Snyder that zombies are now passe?

  • puddingangerslotion-av says:

This trailer makes me think of that cat, Bumfield.

  • sassyskeleton-av says:

I think this quote from Burn Notice applies to moving money:“Anyone who’s ever handled large amounts of cash can tell you it’s one of the toughest things in the world to move. It’s heavy and dense – dead weight.”

  • nextchamp-av says:

The zombies in this movie look awful.Looks like proto-Night of the Living Dead makeup.

    • hamologist-av says:

It’s kind of embarrassing. You’d think after, what, a 50 year history of zombie makeup he could find someone with the experience to make them look passable.Like, there are entire effects houses who just do zombies for a living. Hire one of them, Zack Snyder.

  • mdiller64-av says:

Find yourself someone who loves you as much as Zack Snyder loves slow-motion violence.
