Nolan and Wright collide in the Bruce Wayne Vs. The World trailer

Comic crossovers between different companies can be fun and reveal new sides to characters. Whether it’s DC and Marvel’s Amalgam Universe, Dave Sim’s Cerebrus palling around with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Madman and Superman talking on a playground about God, there’s an unexpected joy that comes from mashing up two possibly incongruous worlds. And as comic book films become more prevalent, perhaps this trend of world mashups will go beyond just shared cinematic universes and into this weird wave of smashing together disparate properties.

At least, that’s the promise of this new fake trailer for Bruce Wayne Vs. The World, as created by YouTuber Inventor Headquarters. Taking footage from Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and putting it through the filter of Edgar Wright’s frenetic Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, the results show that there’s a lot of unexpected joy and lightness in Nolan’s otherwise grim and gritty take on the caped crusader.

By perfectly imitating the trailer for Wright’s adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic, right down to all the same music cues and pauses for jokes, Inventor Headquarters shows off the fun that can be had within the dark world that Nolan created on screen. Suddenly the ultra-serious Bruce Wayne is cracking more jokes, the insanity of Heath Ledger’s Joker is amped up by animated text on screen, and the pop sensibilities of another Batman incarnation is brought full circle to cinema.

And for those curious, not only has Wright seen the mashup trailer, but he heartily approves of it:
