The Real World is making a comeback. According to Variety, ViacomCBS is reviving the historic reality show for its forthcoming streaming service, Paramount+, in time for its March 4 launch. To kick off the relaunch, all seven members of the original cast will come together for a multi-episode reunion in the New York loft where the first season was filmed. The Real World Homecoming: New York will feature former housemates Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell.
“MTV’s The Real World has been credited with creating the Reality TV genre and was one of the first series that tackled important and yet unrepresented topics of the time, from HIV/AIDS, Race, Gender, Orientation and Religion,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV Entertainment Group, in a statement. “With Paramount+ being the home to so many global reality hit franchises, it seems only fitting to bring back the franchise and cast that started it all.”
The Real World premiered in 1992 and lasted until 2017. The show then moved from MTV to Facebook Watch, but the switch failed to garner a sizable audience. There are no details as to how (or where) the series continue beyond the New York reunion.

The Real World, brought to you by AARP and Metamucil.
LMAO. seriously, is anyone simultaneously old enough to remember these people and young enough to care?
Yeah, I would love to see a reunion of these people. I don’t think I would care to see additional casts though.
The original cast was a pretty likeable group overall. I think it’d be fun to catch up with them for an episode or two. But I’m not sure how a bunch of 50-somethings living together is going to make for interesting viewing, unless one of them is now into Q-Anon or something.
The first season is special – it’s much less manufactured and grimy than what is to come. I rewatched it multiple times. With that said, I don’t really need or want to see these people in 2021, especially Eric (who always got on my last nerve).
That would be exactly me.
You seem to be new to this thing called nostalgia. Yes. The answer is yes to your question. There are also people discovering these shows on the platform that they are banking on as well.
I had the biggest crush on Becky. She seemed so New York and cool when I watched this show as a 17-year-old. But Paramount+? Not signing up for that.
Don’t worry.I’m sure it won’t be long before Paramount+ and AMC+are bought up to fill up Peacock or HBOMax.
Paramount is not some obscure little company. Pretty sure they won’t be selling off their library to NBC anytime soon.
The biggest streaming services right now have 200 million subs and 95 million subs respectively. Paramount has 10. After plenty of time with barely in growth. They for sure we be folding into another service if they don’t show significant growth in the next two years.
Paramount+: Come for Star Trek, then go read a book.
Eric being pleasant to look at kept me tuning in back in the day, but I don’t think I’ll pay for an extra streaming service to see how they all turned out.
I would put money on Puck showing up at some point.
One glance from Heather B. will stop that short.
Well, somebody’s gotta bring the producers their coffee.
Is Kinja acting up today, more than usual? I cannot get pending comments to load, or when it does, the “Load more comments” button doesn’t work…
Is someone in the know on how this works? — does my CBS All Access Roku channel just become Paramount+? Or do I have to pay more money for something different? Help me out.
Yes, CBS All Access will just be changing names. There’s no change to the service.
Excellent! Thank you.
🎶True stooooreeeeyyyy🎶
That WASN’T NOT FUNNY!
‘I’m a slave, I’m a slave, I’m a slave to your lovin’. I can’t resist the fever of your kissing and your hugging.”So many bangers from RW Los Angeles!
Hang on, The Miz wasn’t an original member?
He was on the 2nd New York season.
How old do you think Miz is? The show started in the early nineties. He wasn’t a real world cast member until like 10 seasons in.
Oh yeah that makes sense, literally the only thing I know about The Real World is that The Miz was in it.
I will be using a free subscription to watch. I love seasons 1 and 2, but I think The Real World didn’t nail its formula until season 3. For me it reached its pinnacle at season 9.🎶C’mon be my baby tonight🎶
If this doesn’t lead to a reboot of The Grind, I fail to see the point.
This should really be a scene-by-scene reshoot like Gus Van Sant’s Psycho.
