Patty Jenkins is finally, officially on board for Wonder Woman 2

Months after the film, returning star Gal Gadot, and even its release date were first announced, Variety reports that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has officially closed a deal to direct the inevitable sequel. Co-writer Geoff Johns confirmed that he and Jenkins were working on a treatment for the sequel all the way back in June, but Jenkins had yet to formally sign on until now, stoking anxieties that Warner Bros. didn’t learn a damn thing from the female-led superhero movie’s success and was planning to replace Jenkins with your standard-issue Colin Trevorrow-type dude. So why the delay? Apparently, Jenkins was holding out for a payday in line with what her male peers make directing blockbuster tentpoles, a reasonable demand that the studio has now presumably met.

The as-yet-untitled Wonder Woman sequel is due out on December 13, 2019; in the meantime, Jenkins and Wonder Woman co-star Chris Pine are developing a crime miniseries called One Day She’ll Darken for TNT.
