Paul Giamatti joins that John Cusack-as-Brian Wilson movie as his therapist

Aux Features Film

Paul Giamatti (American Splendor, Sideways, John Adams), has signed on to play Eugene Landy, the therapist who built an intense relationship with former Beach Boy Brian Wilson in an attempt to cure both his drug use and psychological issues. While Landy was somewhat successful in helping Wilson's mental state, the two had a falling out after he eventually got involved in Wilson's career, even co-writing much of his eponymous first solo album. Producer turned first-time director Bill Pohlad will begin shooting the film, Love And Mercy, as soon as Giamatti is finished with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. As previously reported, Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood) will play the young Wilson, and John Cusack (The biopic of you that plays in your head if you're any white male born between 1960 and 1975) will play the older, psychologically troubled Wilson.
