Having recently put out the well-received Let England Shake, PJ Harvey is now considering pursuing some of her other artistic talents for a while. After working as a guest-designer for Francis Ford Coppola's literary magazine All-Story last summer—an issue that featured writing by Roberto Bolaño and Woody Allen alongside some of her own artwork—Harvey says she’s been inspired to release even more of her visual art, poetry, and prose work. In an interview with Spinner, Harvey talks about her roots in sculpture before she moved sideways into a music career, while talking about the painting and drawing that’s remained a part of her daily routine for almost 20 years.
Of course, this comes as no surprise, given that Harvey has often talked about how she sometimes doesn’t know whether her ideas will become poems or grow into a song or be expressed through some other outler, but it wasn’t until All-Story that she gained the confidence to showcase her other artistic work for fans. Harvey doesn’t have any concrete plans yet, but says she’s hoping to “release regularly my extraneous works” soon. In the meantime, you can get a look at some of her designs here.
