The Television Critics Association have announced their nominees for the 35th Annual TCA Awards, and the competition is pretty stiff. Per a recent press release, “TCA nominees compete for accolades across different categories honoring outstanding achievements in news and information, youth, reality, drama, comedy, miniseries, and sketch/variety shows” from the 2018-2019 season. FX’s Pose and Netflix’s Russian Doll (both A.V. Club favorites) lead all other programs with four nominations each. HBO garnered a total of 15 nominations, edging Netflix out by just one nod. Showtime, BBC, Pop TV, Amazon, and many others were also recognized in a nominee slate that covers the gamut.
Netflix notably dominated the Outstanding Achievement In Reality category with Nailed It!, Queer Eye, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, and Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat occupying four of the six slots. Series stand-outs Billy Porter (Pose) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) will compete in a stacked Individual Achievement In Drama category while 2014 winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ final Veep performance will go up against a group of comedic heavy hitters, including Nathasha Lyonne for Russian Doll and Catherine O’Hara for her resplendent turn in Schitt’s Creek. Will the Emmy Awards be nearly this interesting?
You can check out the full list of nominees below before the winners are announced Saturday, August 3. Showtime’s dynamic duo Desus and Mero (who are also nominees) will host the private ceremony.

Schitt’s Creek and Catherine O’Hara could use some long overdue awards love
I would be pleasantly shocked with who they are up against.
Agreed, but Pamela Adlon is also a treasure, a god damned treasure, on Better Things.
That list is all pretty worthy and I’m almost rooting against JLD out of the bunch because she’s won so many things already.
I’m glad they’re getting awards buzz this season!
Uh, no.
Here’s an awards first for me – I agree with every nomination in Individual Achievement In Drama. In Comedy, Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg and Anthony Carrigan all deserve nominations for Barry and Ted Danson deserves a nomination for The Good Place. Is Atlanta not eligible because of the timing?
Correct. Atlanta didn’t air any episodes this past season, so there’s nothing to nominate.
Ahhh, thank you.
Hmm, these all seem like smart and reasonable choices; the Individual Achievement in Drama category is an exceptional group. But Internet law decrees that I must be upset about something so, uh, screw you, Sesame Street, and your decades of consistent excellence. You’re not better than me.
See it’s unfair for men and women to be put in one acting category: the men do not stand a chance. Can we have multiple best actress categories instead?
What We Do in the Shadows solitary nomination is a crime.
I know a lot of people liked Russian Doll, but I don’t get the appeal. It was well-acted, but I guess it just wasn’t for me.
I would LOVE to see how Desus & Mero are going to host this thing. C’mon, somebody secretly record the open dialogue at least!
As much as I loved Amy Adams in Sharp Objects, and adore/want to do sex with Jodie Comer in Killing Eve*, if Michelle Williams doesn’t win it for Fosse/Verdon there’s no point in having that award.*I don’t really see Jodie Comer’s performance as “dramatic,” even though KE is a drama. She’s almost always the comedic element, although that ep with Julian Barrett gave her a lot more to work with than usual.
Michelle Williams was outstanding. She just knocks my socks off.
Kinda weird that Homecoming is up for Achievement in Drama but not for Outstanding New Program like Succession is. Little surprised t h e Julia Roberts didn’t get an individual nom too but oof that category is stacked. Always the best group of nominees though just swap out GoT with Barry for Program of the Year because it should win anyway and everything is cool cool cool cool
