Sometimes the stars, films, shows, and albums just align. And that’s just what’s happening on October 21, 2022. In a “when it rains it pours” moment, this Friday is shaping up to be a pop culture perfect storm of the highest magnitude. Films starring the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Julia Roberts and George Clooney, Harry Styles, Colin Farrell, and Paul Mescal all premiere that day. Taylor Swift returns with a new album, but it seems other musicians—Carly Rae Jepsen, Tegan and Sara, The Arctic Monkeys—don’t mind sharing a release date with that pop heavyweight. But wait, there’s more! As we at The A.V. Club batten down the hatches to prepare for this veritable maelstrom of content, we’ve put together a preview of every notable release; honestly, it’s helpful just to have it all spelled out in one place to keep track. P.S. While you’re marking the calendar, take note that October 21 is also the International Day of the Nacho. So this Friday, melt some cheese on some chips and chow down while you celebrate the following.

A lot is riding on Dwayne Johnson’s bulky shoulders with , the latest effort from the DC Universe (let’s be real, it would be nice to see something break up Marvel Studios’ domination of our movie calendar). Black Adam gets top billing for this round-up of the weekend’s big projects if only because, good or bad, all eyes will be on its box office performance. Amid the mayhem at Warner Bros. Discovery, this anti-hero flick hopes to punch away the haters and score the studio conglomerate a rare win.

Some of my stray observations:• Black Adam will probably open with mediocre reviews, along with a bunch of people who will continue to question the state of the DCEU, as if the MCU is doing all that much better right now…• Cool, Jack Antonoff made another album featuring Taylor Swift.• Pretty sure Ticket To Paradise is gonna be underwhelming at the box office.• I’ve heard absolutely nothing about Los Espookys, which I’m going to blame on marketing. It’s never appeared as a featured thing on my HBO Max. I’ve seen very little buzz about it (even in the few AV Club articles I found talking about it). I’m surprised there’s a Season 2 at the point when I wasn’t aware of Season 1. It’s mostly all in Spanish, but I’m not sure why it hasn’t been marketed to me.• Harry Style can’t act, and so far My Policeman has received somewhat unfavorable reviews from critics, which ruins its prospects for prestige awards.• The Peripheral is a pretty boring and forgettable name for a series (even if it is the name of the book). Considering it’s like a mashup of Surrogates (2009) and The Matrix (2009), it certainly looks interesting. I’m just not sold on the name.• Gotham Knights certainly has potential to be good, but since it’s not being made by Rocksteady and is poised to be a sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight (aka The Bat Tank Simulator), I’m going to withhold judgement.• Carly Rae Jepsen has 5 albums now? For a pop artist that hasn’t broken into the Top 5 of the US Billboard 200, and with each subsequent album falling further and further away since “Call Me Maybe” was released, I’m gonna say that this one won’t be a big deal.• The Banshees Of Inisherin looks like a good time, although a bit brooding, I’m hoping for something from Martin McDonagh as good as In Bruges (2008).• I’m hoping Barbarians can improve upon the first season, which was pretty good. But… it premiered 2 years ago, and now I’m gonna have to re-watch it.• The Arctic Monkeys are dead to me now. The groovy, slick rock outfit they once were was the best aspect about them. To hear them say they’re not going to be like that anymore, and will make music more in line with the exceptionally boring “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball” is a huge disappointment.• God’s Creatures, starring Paul Mescal, is not a good movie, and his miniscule role in The Lost Daughter is nothing to sing praises of. I’d still consider him a rising star, since those two films don’t very well demonstrate his abilities as a lead.• Who are Tegan and Sara?• I hope the film Voodoo Macbeth utilizes the very real superstition that you cannot say the name “Macbeth” on stage unless you’re performing it… or else you’ll have some really bad luck. I’ve worked for 9 theaters that held onto this superstition quite intensely.

I think Los Espookys is all I need from this.

Stay tuned at The A.V. Club for more on the latest game from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment: an open-world RPG set in a post-Batman Gotham City. In Gotham Knights, players get to explore and evolve their chosen characters—will you choose Batgirl? Nightwing?—to become the new resident Dark Knight. This city needs YOU!I can’t tell if this is pointless snark or soulless shilling.

I didn’t even realize Black Adam was coming out. In late October as well. That can’t be a good sign for its prospects right? Summer release or Thanksgiving to Christmas makes sense but October is prestige movies and horror usually and not very big box offices.
