At the D23 Expo last year, Disney announced that every Disney princess, with most of the original voice actors, would be returning to the big-screen in the new Wreck It Ralph movie, Ralph Breaks The Internet. Ahead of the film’s release next week, we sat down with a few behind-the-scenes folks—art director Ami Thompson, co-writer Pamela Ribon, and head of animation Kira Lehtomaki—to find out how the Disney princess reunion came together.

I hope there’s more with the princesses than the initial clip in the trailer because at first it seemed really cynical. Like it was penned by an algorithm skimming thousands of youtube videos providing their hot totally original takes on how Disney princesses are messed up when you really think about it, maaan.
Lots of children’s fare seems corny, well-trod, superficial or cynical from a seasoned, adult point-of-view.
Though if you think that scene is what an algorithm skimming Youtube would make of D, you might not be cynical enough yet.
