Marvel—faced with the tricky proposition of getting its audiences excited for the adventures of Moon Knight, a superhero best known for mental illness and driving a cab—continues to load up its upcoming Disney+ series about the character with high-profile talent. The producer has already tapped Oscar Isaac to star as the title character, which should get a fair number of butts in seats, and will now flesh out the show’s cast with a regular role for Ramy’s May Calamawy. Per Deadline, Calamawy—who plays Ramy Youssef’s sister Dena on the Hulu series—has been cast in an undisclosed role. (Moon Knight has a few different supporting characters and love interests over his 40-year history as a character, but none you’re likely to recognize by name.)

Marvel has put a fairly hefty focus on Moon Knight of late, in a way that seems to show determination to make the show A Thing, despite the lack of links to its MCU properties that are powering so many of its other Disney+ shows. There’s Isaac, obviously, but also a pretty hefty push to get young and interesting directors working on the project: Mohamed Diab will be helming several of the show’s episodes, and the studio just announced that indie auteur darlings Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been brought on board to handle at least a handful of installments. The show is expected to start filming in March, in Budapest.

Surely they aren’t doing the Lemire run? That run is far too similar to Legion IMO.

Give us Ellis!“I don’t love anybody…that’s why I always win.”

Ellis’ work has lost its luster after this summer it was revealed he was a creep who coerced and groomed women into having sex with him under the guise of mentorship.

Personally, I would be excited if they were going to do the Bendis run, but then they’d probably ruin it like they ruined Alias/Jessica Jones. Unpopular opinion, I know, but I stand by it.

I hope the “unpopular opinion” is your love of Bendis’s Moon Knight, haha!…because, outside of the pilot, the Jessica Jones show had zero understanding of what made Alias so special.

Oh, I totally agree with you but I think most people luvvved the first season.I also assume love of Bendis’ work is unpopular around these parts.

USM, Daredevil, and Alias are pretty beloved, here…as they are by everyone who has a soul.Everything post-Avengers…less so.

personally the lack of ties to the wider MCU is kind of exactly what has me so excited about this show. although Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight (who objectively, as a character, kicks ass) and Benson/Moorhead directing is certainly not hurting my excitement either. I’m far more interested in this project than the other Marvel shows Disney is lining up even without them having to hype me up
