Regina Hall almost quit acting to become a nun

Aux Features Regina Hall

Actress Regina Hall shared a lot during her interview with The New York Times, but few aspects were as relatable as her desire to leave all the industry noise behind and head to a nunnery.

Eight years ago, Hall considered pursuing her childhood interest of becoming a nun. While she vaguely mentions going through a break-up around that time, Hall doesn’t cite any specific events or attitudes that triggered the desire. “I never thought about walking away from anything. I thought of walking to something,” Hall said. “I thought being a nun would be peaceful.”

Ultimately, Hall did no take up residence in a convent, as evidenced by her currently blooming career post-Girls Trip. The main barrier between her and a simpler life: Her age.

“The group I was interested in had an age limit for joining,” she explained. “There were a couple things in my way. I could’ve lied about them, but I didn’t want to start off as a nun like that.”

Hall was also very candid about her place in mainstream Hollywood versus her more recognizable stance within black Hollywood. She also, unfortunately, had to field questions about friend Kevin Hart and his Oscars drama, because living in 2019 still doesn’t render women immune to answering questions about the unrelated behavior of men.

The runaway success of Girls Trip has led to a new phase of Hall’s career, one that has reintroduced her to indie audiences thanks to her starring role in the comedy Support The Girls.

I wanted to join, but then I was told you don’t get flying powers from God. You have to be born with them, like Sally Field.

It was a combination of her light frame, ridiculous habit, and the high winds near her convent. Basically, she could only do it there. Fortunately, there was a high number of minor problems that could be solved by flying, so maybe God put her where she needed to be.

Could lead to a host of other issues.

They should make a sequel to The Little Hours and she can fulfill her wish through film.Btw Support The Girls was really great when I finally got around to seeing it. It was on Hulu and I think it still is.

I’m ashamed Hollywood keeps up this way. Lynne Thigpen, a Broadway success, not that famous at the time of her death. Morgan Freeman achieved overdue success only in his old age. Regina Hall has had years of credits, and is only now becoming famous.

“few aspects were as relatable as her desire to leave all the industry noise behind and head to a nunnery”- if that’s what it takes to return to an AV Club centered around a genuine love for pop culture, rather than an unceasing outrage/exhausting snark-churning machine, then by all means, send most (if not all), of thy current writing staff thither forthwith!

Would be pretty stupid since gods don’t exist. Just would have been another waste of a life and resources.

On behalf of straight men everywhere, we thank you for your choice.

Reminds me of a joke from Frasier where Roz mentions to the priest, Father Mike, that she thought about becoming a nun when she was a little girl. When he asks her why she changed her mind, there’s an awkward pause and she says, “I didn’t want to get up early?”

Somehow i keep reading that as she almost quit acting to become a man.

Is she fishing for a Sister Act reboot or something?
