RIP Tom Poston

Aux Features Newswire

Tom Poston, famous for playing the "clueless everyman" on shows like Newhart and Mork & Mindy, has died at the age of 85. Poston started his career on the Broadway stage before being drafted to serve as a comically unnerved "man on the street" for The Steve Allen Show, where he won an Emmy for his portrayal of "The Man Who Can't Remember His Name." He met his wife, Suzanne Pleshette, while doing a string of guest appearances on The Bob Newhart Show, and later teamed up with Newhart again as bumbling handyman George on the comic's self-titled sitcom. Poston continued to work steadily up until last year with guest spots on That '70s Show, Will & Grace, and a recurring role on the short-lived Committed.
